Mungus,

Any other time i would have taken you up on the xenia but something is not right in my tank right now and i just the last two stalks that i had in my tank. So the last thing i want to do is kill more xenia.

Meche,

I think that is the stuff that grows on my glass every other day that needs to be wiped clean. I have always had that stuff since i started doing reefs. My lfs says its the same thing as DTs phyto plankton. So i don't think its anything to worry about. I would just get some more hermit crabs or something.

Returnofsid,

I have two tunze 6100s blowing around my sand and a dart pump for circulation so i don't know how much more flow i can add to keep this stuff down. I have never dealt with this stuff before so i have no clue what brought it on but i don't think lack of flow is my answer but thatnks for the help.

Also i notice a lot of cyan is growing in my fuge so would you guys scrape it down and start over in the sump or let it die off on its own?

shallowreef - I would siphon as much out as I could from the sump. Use it as a nutrient export. If you can avoid the stuff dying off on its own, then I'd do that. Otherwise, the nutrients it used to grow will go right back into the water.

That is exactly what i am trying to get growing in my fuge. its started but is growing slowly.
i have a power compact 6700 k freshwater aqua light on mine and wow the stuff is insane... says alot for my system huh.. too many nutrients!

Well i am running to 50/50 PCs over mine 24/7 and nothing is taking off? So does that mean i have low nutrients? If so why do i still have to clean the glass in my main tank every other day? I think i am going to get my water tested this weekend and if everything checks out i am going to get some xenia and see if i can't get this bad boy started. If my levels are not right then i am going to buy a crap load of macro and stuff it in my fuge.

The fuge is half of a 75 gallon tank (33.5 gallons) and is lit by dual 24" PC in a reflector. the lights are on 24/7.

I have one 65 watt power compact on my 20 gallon fuge cheato is in about a 10 gallon compartment. do you has any spare lights you could throw down there for 2 days to see if its not enuf watts?

No i wanted to buy a used 24" coralife halde for it but i waited too long. I honestly don't think its my light though because my LFS has the exact same setup with the fugr on his 300 gallon sho tank and has macro growing like crazy. I think that i should just cram a ton in there and let it grow for a while and then try and add the xenia after a few months. I know that xenia like dirtier water so maybe my tank isn't established enough. This tank has kept me guessing a lot lately so i don't know what to do. All i know is that my xenia are dieing and my macro isn't growing which is driving me nuts!
