Hello Reef Frontiers!

I am new to saltwater and my 75 gallon is currently in the cycling stage. I bought some liverock off craigslist that looked pretty healthy (and was cheap) and it came with a small anemone.

It's been in my tank for a few weeks now and during that course, the anemone got about twice as big and last night it split!

I actually took the both pictures of the Anemone within 24 hours of eachother.

What kind of Anemone is this and is this normal?

Thanks Reef Frontiers!

Majano anamone. Considered a pest as they can sting other corals and reproduce fast. Most kill them, a very few keep them. They are something to look at as your tank cycles. Google Majano anamone...

ID: spotted discosoma mushroom

I agree with the majano id.
On some of them you can take a knife tip and pry under the base and they sometimes pop off.

i agree with the above.
just because an anemone splits does not mean its happy. some will split due to stress its part of their survial instinct.
but these are kind of a pest tend to overpopulate and sting other corals and keep you from putting corals you will enjoy.

There also look to be some colonial hydroids on the rock, which can also sting and which can be a real pain to get rid of.

Ahhhh!

Those are definatley colonial hydroids.... I posted a picture on here earlier and I thought they were maybe dead feather dusters or some kind of an algae.... I figured I would get a wrasse and a tang to take care of it after my tank cycled.

But I'm reading now that they are harmful to coral.....

Anyone know a good way to get rid of Colonail Hydroids?

I read that I can just wait and that eventually they will go away but that leaves me kinda skeptical..... Is this true?

Should I just take the whole rock and and remove them by hand while remove the anemone?
