My Anemone is shrinking into a hole in a chunk of live rock and it's tentacles are whispy and thin, until I feed him but lately he hasn't come out yet (usually around 10:00pm, when he was bundled in his hole) as he usually does during the day.
I just checked him and he was fully spread out and his tentacles were big and fat. Maybe it's just something he does until he is ready to wake up? SO is it normal without a host clownfish pair to do this?

Anemones will do alot of strange things. They will move all over your tank and hide in the weirdest places.

Is this behavior that only happens at night? If so, it's perfectly normal. My RBTAs have always done this at night. During the day, they'll be out and fully inflated. At night, they shrink up and hide in the live rock. They even do this with Clowns. The clowns just follow...lol.

I agree with returnof sid, both my LTA and Seabae retract at night and come back out during the day. Also when my LTA, which is about 12" across is disturbed (like when I touch him with my tongs/siphon hose) it will contract until only the very tips are showing out of the live rock, it always amazes me how small it can get when contracted, but it is handy when trying to siphon dietrus out of the tank:)
