No way do I wanna pay $200 for the Current USA stand - I could use those bucks for lighting or the myriad other supplies I'll need to start up. I've seen many DIY stand threads and diagrams - from ghetto all the way up to uber-craftsmanship-furniture. None I've seen are for a cube nano - I suppose the dimensions could be adjusted and allowances made to avoid over-building it. 2x3 instead of 2x4 etc. Some "calculators" call for 100% 2x2 except for the top of course.

There is no reason to use any 2x anything especially for a tank that small. The Solona stand at $200 is probably a pretty good deal for an ikea quality stand. The cheapest and easiest would be a frameless euro cabinet / stand much like the one elos sells. The only thing I'd do differnet is make it a solid build instead of knock down since your not shipping it. Even at that having one made is going to cost you $150 with a ply slab door or you can build yourself for about $100 if you have the appropriate tools.

Thanx Don - as a matter of fact I was mulling using 1x3s - that seems to works well when I build model railroad benchwork. I have more skills and tools to do a framed-version as opposed to a frameless. Materials will be quite inexpensive. at present not considering a door.

Gort, just FYI, i LOVE my Solana stand from Current USA (have it in espresso color). Its well made, very modern, had nice brushed aluminum handle for door/drawer. For the glass door in front, I put "rice paper" window covering from home depot (so you can barely see inside). On the top fo the stand i got a piece of black granite cut to the 22X22 measurement (looks really nice and prevents an accidental drip of water from getting to the stand). Its in our living room and looks very attractive.

jgalvin - thanx for the feedback - glad you like yours. Opinions are all over the map on that one. I ended up ordering one from DonW...

no problem, Don is actually building a stand for me as well - for my new 57G illuminata. I pick up from him this weekend (hopefully). While i liked the Current USA stands, the ones for the Oceanic line (the Tech stands) were very ugly (to me).
