Anyone running a de-humidifier?

So this was a damp winter in my living room and too darn cold to leave the window cracked, between my glasses fogging up and the start of a mold/mildew problem I need to address this. Of course with summer coming the a/c will solve this for now but before winter I want to know what others are doing to eliminate the moisture problem. I looked today at dehumidifiers around $200 but I was also toying with the idea of a air exchanger (less power).

i run a dehumidifier in the office room/now brother in-law fiance bedroom :doubt: (at least until the end of the month :badgrin .
It's a whirlpool one and it makes a big difference dood, the bedroom feels less humid for sure

yeah I think its time to bite the bullet and use more power arggg... I am actually thinking of waiting and getting the Danby unit whihc is a a/c and dehumidifier all in one which would be nice as then I can eliminate the one window a/c unit...

I've been using a dehumidifer for 2 years and couldn't do without it.
I really makes a difference in the winter when the house is closed up.

cant live without mine either. Worth the extra bucks to be able to not live in a rain Forrest. Plus you can place it anywhere in the room so hopefully you can hit a different breaker like i got lucky on.

not sure if I want to go with the whirlpool unit (cheaper) or the Danby as the Danby although more expensive appears to be more efficient as well.... Thanks Dave will look into yours as well, you going tomorow?

I've been mulling over the idea of a dehumidifier myself. I have found that Amazon is a good place to do some research into customer opinions of different dehumidifier units.

Wow! IM shocked you keep it set at 40%. Does your system evaporate 5-6 gallons a day? Im suprised it doesnt run 24/7 since the humidty in Seattle sets around 60% more often than not . Its at 67% outside right now for instance. I keep my dehumidistat set at around 75% in my tank room and have found that the doors and walls dont sweat if I keep it at that. Also, Its not a sauna when you walk into the room.

my garage is nice and dry I have extremely expensive items, electrical mechanical and paper that I do not want damaged from the humidity and salt from the tanks. it is heated and insulated and air conditioned as well.

So I use it not to just stop sweeting walls and windows but to protect my investments.

I evaporate about 3 gallons a day with my main tanks in the house, only the sump and refugiums are in the garage not the garage the other 2 to 3 gallons comes from air leaks in the garage.

Ya, I figured you knew what you were doing. I figured Id just give, and get, a little more information regarding the humidity for anyone else reading through this thread. In other words your garage isnt just a garage. Its a high class storage shed.
