Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Mike wanted me to convey his thanks to everyone for thier support and positive encouragment. He is in a great deal of pain as he crushed the clavical in 2 spots one of which is rubbing the inside of the shoulder! (hurts just thinking about it) He went for a consult yesterday and will be having surgery on his birthday this upcoming thursday. I will have the voice recognition software installed this weekend so he can communicate on his own I knoe he is going crazy just sitting in the chair and sleeping but moving around is beyond the pain threshhold even with heavy narcotics. Thanks again everyone for your support knowing Mike he will be building a new tank or something while still in a cast :)

At least you still have your health! Hmmmmm, that didn't come out right... OK, Thank heaven you have good friends like Aaron and a whole lot of people in your support group. Not sure this is what Confucius meant when he said May you live in interesting times. Make sure Aaron is keeping up on maintenance and not overfeeding the fish. Get well soon pal, time flies when you're on drugs.

Sorry to hear of your situation. My thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery man. I think everyone is eager to get you back on the forums.

Take care.

This is Aaron, Mike's roomate he has asked me to let everyone know that he was involved in a roll over accident last week coming home from California and becasue of his injuries has not been able to easily type and therfore has not been able to respond. Mike was asleep in the back of his new minivan, his friend was driving; the ball mount on the u-haul trailer they were pulling cracked pulling the van sideways causing a complete roll over. Mike has a broken clavical as well as bruised kidney and several smaller abrasions. He asked if anyone was trying to reach him to please wait until next week after his surgery and I get voice recognition software installed on his laptop. I have attached a few pics of the van and trailer... Thank You

.....

Mike landed on this pc with his right kidney smashing the steel case

So his kidneys are stronger than steel? Imagine what the computer would look like if he landed on it with his elbow?

Get well soon Mike....

Hi everyone its Mike, thank you to all for the best wishes it has been wonderful knowing that so many can support a total stranger through tough times it makes me believe that the world has not completly gone down the toilet.

As far as where I stand I have been in a great deal of pain even though I am on a high dose of narcotics and muscle relacers if anything it has just helped me sleep the days away until I move subconciously then wake up crying in pain again. I am scheduled for surgery on the 12th (my birthday of all days) they will be tying the bone fragments together with a plate and 6 screws as the bone right now is about a 1/2" apart and is scraping the inside of the shoulder (a feeling I cannot even describe) The doctor tells me with this I should heal up faster and in less pain about 4-6 weeks.

My van was totalled but because of a great insurance company I already have settled for that part they are investigating the ball mount failure I hate to say it but it looks like just poor manufacturing I never even looked when I purchased it from u-haul it was made in china!

In the next coming weeks I may take you up on your offer Nelson my tanks are a mess but my roomate has been keeping up with WC's and feedings so they will survive.

again thank you all for your support I hope to be back in the game in about a month this was such a shock to me both mentally and physically the first few days were just awful I have my grandmother in town to help out and Aaron is doing his best as well so I am in good hands from that perspective. I will try and respond more but it is hard to type and the voice recognition software does not do welll when I am dopey.

missed this thread damn. I'm so glad mc is ok u hope he's in good spirits. Just skimmed over the thread didn't read all the posts. Hope some one is taken care of his tank for him

God bless

Hi everyone its Mike I wanted to post to let everyone know that my surgery went as planned on my birthday. There was substantially more damage than the doctor had anticipated and its a good thing I did not opt to not do the surgery or it would have never healed. The muscle had been pinched in between the bone fragments (hence the stabbing from the inside feeling) and was trying to attach to bone instead of bone to bone healing.

I have been in a tremendous amout of pain even with heavy medications this has been a very painful drawn out process I am recovering well at home the 4" incision is already scabbing up but it will be a couple months for the rest of the recovery.

I again want to thank everyone who was thinking of me and wishing me the best you cannot believe how much that means to me. I will be taking some people offers for help over the next couple of weeks as I cannot do much and it looks like I will be without income for at least 3 weeks of this mess since my supervisor has done nothing to work with our HR department heck he has not even called to see how I am doing for that matter.

Anyhow thanks again everyone I will update on my progress and send pm's individually when I can for assistance in saving my tanks they have definatly taken a beating from my non-presense...

wow...sorry to be late to this thread. shoulder surgery is tough because they often don't heal up normally because of all the moving parts. I know from personal experience. :(

Thanks for the message regarding the yellow tang. I am glad he is doing well and I hope that when you are well enough, you can post a pic on that thread.

Good luck with your recovery Mike!

late in reading this thread (hawaiian time I guess) I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery....Aloha Les
