Hi,

I've got another problem in another one of my QT tanks. I have a dussumieri tang with what looks like a bacterial infection. His skin looks a little cloudy, one eye is cloudy and slightly swollen, and the edges of his fins have suddenly gotten ragged and torn. He's eating, but is less lively than usual (still eating). This all happened after the power outage, which was very stressful for the fish.

I've started treating with a half dose of Maracyn after doing a very large water change. The fish is at 1.009 salinity. I have two concerns: Am I using the right antibiotic? Is using a half dose appropriate since he is a hyposalinity conditions? Thanks.

Andrea

Andrea,

With the lowered salinity, you should be using Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes at the recommended (instructions) dosage on the medication.

In normal salinity, the Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes is to be doubled dosed. In hyposalinity, use the dosage given on the container. :)

If you were using other antibiotic medications other than Maracyn Two you would be correctly dosing -- half the recommended dosage. But the Two antibiotic is doubled to start with.

Thanks again. :) I hope he pulls through. My poor fish have gone through a lot lately.
