Basic Refugium Maintanance Question

sharkbaitx2 the reason folks run thier lights in the sump/refugium 24/7 is two fold. 1. to keep a more stable PH and 2. to keep cualerpa from going sexual. If you have things like halemida, xenias, or no macroalgaes at all you can basically reverse the photo period. So when the display tank lights are on the Sump/fuge lights are off and vice versa. Mine fuge is getting close to the time to trim and I will be pulling stuff out or as suggested here, pinching. I have razor, grape, halemida, and somewhere in there is some brillo pad.

I have macro algae of varying sorts in my new little fuge... I notices the 'goo when you trim caulerpa. I also grow halimeida and xenia in there.... I got bored of chucking Xenia away so in it went!

I really appreciate the insight into the toxin release I was inadvertantly being cautious of that because of the Calfo & Fenner refugia chapter... where they advise taking a stem not a cutting. However I have a neat trick- hold the cut ends in your hand then shake the caulerpa to be thrown away in the main tank- any pods etc that were attached usually swim off in the mix!
