I found this black sponge in my qt tank on some frags I was given from another reef keeper, but it is possible they traveled to the frags from some wild caught peices that have also been in the qt for over two months. Just curious if it is something to be concerned about getting into my display tank.

Thanks,

Other than competing for space with the zoanthids, it should not be a problem. I have had the same black sponge for years. If you want the zoanthids to fully cover the rock, you could remove the sponge.

I'm fine with them if they stay on their half of the rock, but if they take over zoanthids then they are out. I plan on running a pretty high nutrient system so they will be able to grow. I'm pretty sure I am just going to get rid of them, but was worried as I might have pieces left and they could come back from the dead of sorts.

I can't see the pics,

but I've got some growing on a dead piece of candycane coral,
kinday branching and long.

what's funny,
I added some red slime remover to my tank,
and the black sponge turned whitish pink
didn't harden up, kept growing
a couple months later now, and it's turning black again.......
