i did for the "black ich".....they both have a slight bacterial inf. now...it seems to be getting better w/ daily water changes.

i wasn't keeping up with the WC 's like i should have been and now they have infections...

Yes, carbon would not be a bad idea. It may not end up helping but it won't hurt either. Just ensure it is rinsed every other day in RO and changed out for fresh weekly. Don't use much more than 2ish shot glass worth, you don't need much.

i was just thinking of running it for 2-3 days to help get the water cleaned up....the water changes will be all i need after that

also...i forgot to tell you...the yellow belly looks like he is getting better...the spots seem to be getting smaller.....the regular hippo only has one spot that i can see..it quit getting larger....i have been doing daily water changes

If the spot on the smaller tang does not abate soon, you will need to treat with anti's. Give it a few more days though. Just in case, see what your prefered LFS carries in the way of gram negative & gram possitive antibiotics and post back. Don't buy anything just yet.

i looked yesterday... they have maracyn( i think that is what it was called)...do you recommend a product???

Maracyn (preferabley Maracyn II) would work just fine as long as it's Minocyline. Just to be on the safe side, also see if they have any Nifurpirinol, it may be labeled as Furanase. If they do, also check for Neomycine sulphate. The two combined make a great "cocktail".

The Maracyn (Minocycline) should do the job but just incase, lets be prepared for the possibility of a fungal infection. Although extremely rare, it is a possibility. Furan-2 would also be a possible choice.

i just tested both qt tanks...everything was zero ...nitrates didn't even show up.. i compared them against a test strip that i dipped in unused salt water..they were the same color...

Good to hear on the water quality numbers.

If you can keep that up along with the fortified (Vitamin/HUFA) feedings, the "spots" should continue to clear up. If the smaller tangs does not show any improvement at all by Thursday, we should consider treatment. Mabye by then it might be easier to get a pic?

As for the meds, no they are not dips. They/it would be used as an extended bathy for about a week used in the QT.

steve, the spot on the smaller hippo is almost gone today..it is no longer raised and it just a white discoloration...the larger yellow belly appears to be getting rid of them also, although there are still some present on it.... i will continue the vitamins and WC's and see what happens... i have a feeling the small hippo won't have much of a spot tomorrow or the next day!!!!!:)

steve, what do you think about adding the regular hippo to my display after i watch it for a week or two..i already have a hippo in the display..how do you think they will fare?????72g by the way...i will have my 125g up in a few weeks hopefully(waiting on the stand), but i will have to cure some new rock in it, so it will be another few weeks after that

steve, what do you think about adding the regular hippo to my display after i watch it for a week or two.
Since you still need to raise the salinity (?), the tangs will still be in their QT's near that time. At the end of the week if all looks good start slowly raising the salinity daily. After another 10-14 days later, you can consider transfering to another tank.

i already have a hippo in the display..how do you think they will fare?????
Terrible, they'll most likely kill each other. Combining this species should only be done as juvi's.

i will have my 125g up in a few weeks hopefully(waiting on the stand), but i will have to cure some new rock in it, so it will be another few weeks after that
A 6 foot tanks a good size for this species but as I said above, only if introduces simultatiously and juvi's.

i have two juveniles and the large yellowbelly....i was planning on giving up the yellowbelly to one of the lfs owners..he has a300g, but he puts so much new stuff in it and doesn't qt...i think the fish will end up in the same situation as it was in

If they where both less than 2" I would say it's good to go but the larger one may be a concern. If added to the 125 you might be okay but in the 72 I think it will fail.

Cheers
Steve
