what if i added the smaller one to the 125g and then the larger one 2-3 weeks later???? would that help???

Ron I orig only had one regal that grew from less than a inch to about 4" by the time I added two new regals that were around 5-6". There was no aggression between the fish at all and the smaller one quickly grew to the size of the larger ones. Now you can not tell them apart by size. Keep in mind this was a 525 gallon tank. My point is regals IME are not nearly as aggressive as other tangs. Adding yellows or purples will def not yeild those results.

yeah, i hear that they are not as aggresive, but your tank is HUGE....i have only had the one in my display for 3-4 months..it has doubled in size...i think once the smaller one gets into a larger tank, it will have a growth spurt also

Adding most conspecific fish a distance apart is not going to go well at all. They must be added simultaniously for any hope of averting disaster. The more mature the fish is the less likley for even that to work. The exception being primarily clowns and other easily mated species.

Keep in mind this was a 525 gallon tank.
This makes all the difference in the world. The larger the tank the less the issues. If you where to add almost any combination of conspecies to a system that large you would not end up with much if any conflict. The smaller the system gets, the more penchant for trouble.

i missed the water changes today..it would take forever to heat all the water right now..i will do it in the morning....i hope that doesn't have any bad effect on my progress..it shouldn't be too bad...just one day

just looked at the regular hippo..the spot is barely visible..it does have a tiny one by its tail, but it seems to be smaller also..i think that those are the last two...the yellow belly is hard to tell...it has had multiple infections on it..they are all large..i can't tell if they are healing...i will stay on top of the water changes

the more i look at the yellowbelly, it does look better, the spots are smaller, but it seems to be healing slowly

steve, i am going to have to go to WC's every other day now....i messed up the filters in my unit and the new ones will be here some time next week!!!! until they get here, i can only do every other day

Steve, i may have to go get some meds for the yellowbelly..it still has the spots..they are still large..it looks like there may be more..i am not sure, but it does have some dark dots on it.2-3 about the size of a pencil tip mark! let me know what you think

Can you describe the texture/color of the spots? Need to try eliminating the possibility of Lympho. Meds will have zero impact on it. Gram possitive infections would also be unaffected so you may need to treat both bacterial and fungal.

Maracyn II for SW (Minocyline) will be your best bet for bacterial. What other meds did your LFS have available?

i am not sure what other meds they have... i can order some if necessary.. the spots are whitish- cream colored..they look kind of dark in the center? they are raised..the spots look a little smaller today and appear to be fading somewhat..there are also two dark spots( brownish or red) near its tail..they are not raised like the others and look totally different from the others

Steve, the spots have returned on the regular small hippo...i had to stop daily WC's because i messed up my R/O filter..the new ones will be here tomorrow...i will start the daily WC's back then.....also, i am having algae growing in the small hippo's tank..i am not overfeeding,i have no filters , and i have been doing regular water changes...some daily, some every other day.....also, i have started giving them some frozen Formula 2 along with the dried nori...could the frozen food be fouling up my water????

Since this is a QT and you're not using meds/copper, tap water is just fine for future reference. Just be sure you use a good dechlor to detoxify any potential problems. The presence of algae is actually a good sign don't worry about it, means the tank is maturing and accustom to the lower salinity. As long as the nitrogens check out you're all good.

How large of a water change have you been doing each time? It seems very suspicious that this would return so quickly after missing only once.

no..i missed a few....i have been doing them every other day, but not as much each time 20-30% on the yellowbelly tank , and 15% on the small hippo....a couple things came up..i only had a couple of the jugs to mix water in..i have 3 other tanks running other than these 2..i had to do large changes on 2 of them..the water had to sit for 24hrs..blah blah blah...anyway, i bought a couple extra jugs... now i can keep up with them....my filters will be here in the morning..i will be set..

i have done WC's for the past two days..i thyink the water is good again...when i got it,i made the mistake of putting the yellow belly in a tank that wasn't big enough ..it is in a 10g..i knew better, but it was the only tank i had left and i bought it on an impulse because it was sick!!!the water quality is hard to keep up with in the tank...as soon as the smaller hippo is better, i am going to put it in the display and move the yellow belly to the 20g qt tank..it will be easier to keep the water quality up!! i am running carbon in the 10g right now..

How is the smaller one? You should be able to raise the salinity any time now. By the 9th or so it should be possible to add to the display if all goes well.

well, it developed a few spots when i started missing WC's..they seem to be under control now and aren't growing any larger!!! theyu should start fading here in a day or two!!

steve, i am concerned about the yellow belly..the spots are staying the same, even with the WC's...i may give meds a try next week..i found Mardel, maracyn, maracyn2,primafix?, and melafix?( i think that was the name).....some of the spots turned dark looking..some are still white..the dark ones look like they have a clear coating over them..i'm sorry about the desciption???

the spots are staying the same, even with the WC's.
But they're not getting any larger, yes? What are the water quality numbers?

There's no reason why you can't try a round of anti's. I would suggest hitting it with both gram + & - though just to be sure. Maracyn (Tetracycline) will treat the + and Maracyn II (Minocycline) will treat the -. Don't bother with the Pima/Mela.

If there is no improvement after the first few days, it most likely Lympho and you can't cure that with meds.

Cheers
Steve
