Calcium reactor feed pump

Some of this seems to me to be a practice of "killing the fly with a 20# sledge"....

Evaluate if the expense of a well built peristaltic pump could be alleviated by simply using pressure from an existing pump.....
The best results come from hands-on experience, along with testing the ph, dkh and calc of your effluent. Take some time, get it dialed in, and don't throw money at it. Then you will have a better chance of understanding exactly what is going on.
My 2 bits. :)

if you can see cleared water on top of the media in the chamber,,you had enough water input,,if not need bigger pump,,also depend on how large the chamber is,,hope it help

The difference is wanting to make it as easy and trouble free as possible. The ease of adjustment, no plugged valves, no gas traps easily makes the grade for alot of folks. The ease of turning a dial rather than dinking with a ever changing valve would be well worth it to me.

The $250 for the pump I linked is probably one of the best purchases I have made for my tank. I work out of town and am not able to tinker with my tank so it has to kind of run on autopilot while I'm gone. I haven't had to touch my reactor in anyway since I bought this pump.

the same could reasonably be said for using a controller.....
Note that I said "evaluate" and tried to point out that a while a peristaltic pump may do the trick nicely, it may be vast overkill for the op's (or other readers) needs. Unknown to you, I offered the op use of such a pump via pm. (he is local to me).
I also stand behind my advice to both the op and subsequent readers looking to glean knowledge- learn what you are doing and understand the operation prior to total automation. Akin to learning mutliplication prior to breaking out the calculator.

I understand and agree with the out-of-town failsafe mentality. I too travel extensively, and it escapes me how people can spend money on a variey of gizmos in this hobby, only to get out when the power outage wipes out their livestock.
You also remind me- I need to get back to Clarkston soon... It's been About 4 months :)

Using a peripump has nothing to do with automation or not learning how the CARX works. The overal knowlege of the chemistry is in no way eliminated. It mearly allows a consistant feed method without the typical failures nothing more.:) A tried and true method of feeding is only skipping experimentation of feed methods, nothing more.

Before this thread I never considered a peristaltic pump on a reactor. Now I know that it is a valid method to overcome inherent limitations and simplify another aspect of reefkeeping.

Thats harsh!

Whats it mean? Is it some coded message? Ah! speaking in code, ok.
