Can someone tell me the diameter of a DSLR camera lens????

Please measure at the point where you focus the lens.

Thanks

Peppie

does it matter what type lens?

meaning macro, 18-55, 50-300, ??

I have both, just need to know what kind you want.

Not quite following you here Dave. DSLR lens's vary in many ways depending on what you're trying to do with them. Point and shoot, Macro, wide angle, telephoto and the list goes on. They also range in price from just a couple hundred up into the thousands. I've seen more than one lens for over 7K. That's when you need a tri pod just for the lens.

A digital single-lens reflex camera is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras. ...:peace: I copied and paste that all by myself.

Oh, after rereading I get it. You're asking for the hole size to cut into acrylic or something like that.

The 18-135mm lens on my wifes new camera is 67mm for a 2 7/8 cut out

The 18-55 on our old camera is labeled 58mm for a 2 3/8 cut out

Our 55-250 telephoto is also 58mm for a 2 3/8 cut out (2 5/16 tight)

These would all be only for the very end of the lens. The actual adjustment grip is a bit larger on all of them.

Thanks Guys and Gals

You too Kevin

This info is related to the upcoming work shop.
I think we can make a camera gadget on the cheap.
Will need to do a couple of protos
Duane, You interested in putting a few hours of some R&D on this , down at OBD after the first of the year??

That reads like,,, Blah blah blah.........................................
You know I am all about numbers!!!
Where are my NUMBERS!!!

BTW LOL

My 18-70 is 2 & 15/16th inch diameter

So far it is looking like a 3'' tube.

Sounds like your game for this gadget.
I have to warn you there will be more than 2 pieces. LOL JK
Your DIY skills are much better than some pro plumbers I know, and a couple of carpenters.

Yes, I've been considering making one of these for a few years now and have been just too lazy. Lets make it happen.

I have the thread tap we need for the plastic bolts

So i assume for those that want to participate, each of us would need to bring our own lense(s) to the workshop?

what else??

we should bring our whole camera and test them in Peppies tank!

LOL,
There is nothing in my tank worth pulling out a ladder to take a picture.

I am pretty certain the Workshop will be held at OBD. Mike said that he would need a couple weeks notice.

That is a correct assumption.
Not sure what else will be needed yet.
I am working on a price for the tubing, and other supplies

I will send you a PM with a date to meet at OBD. Shortly after the holidays.
I am hoping we can hold the workshop by the end of Jan.
The date will depend on when we can get the correct size tubing, I think to keep the cost down it may be a three week lead time on the tubing.
