As I was looking in my tank, I noticed that my cardinal had something sticking out of his mouth and I assume it may be babies.

I've never seen anything like this but thought maybe someone else has and can tell me what the chance of survival is. The cardinals cheeks are full and it swims around with it's mouth open.

Any tips on how to save them or what to expect. We just got rid of our aggressive fish so they may have a chance.

Those can definitely be babies he's carrying. Best way to save them/raise them would be to separate them from mom and dad. Get a fry net and raise them in there or a separate tank. Either wait till dad releases them from his mouth and catch them with a brine shrimp net (its softer). I think you should be able to feed them Cyclopeeze, and baby brine shrimp at first.

You should PM Lee (leebca) a link to this page and see what he says.

Definitely babies.

If you are wanting to save them, please start a batch of baby brine shrimp.

They will be their first foods.

Best,
Ilham
