Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Thanks for sharing this Kirk. I just wonder why people who insist there not being a need to put in a QT don't see these kinds of posts and understand the simple fact that no QT and no disease is just luck. Someday that luck will run out if they plan on keeping marine fishes.

Update:

Its been 1.5 weeks since the Copper treatment ended. I've been running carbon, and doing water changes of 40%-50%, changing the carbon each time. Cruiser is still looking great, he still eats like crazy too. I also started putting in some Algae sheets (Julian Sprung Sea Veggies) and he eats that too. I'm planning on keeping some in my tank at all times from when I add him. This way, if I'm lucky, it will distract him from all the SPS and the Clam in my tank .

Lee,
Is there anything else I need to do now? I have 3 or 4 more weeks before the QT is finished.

On a side note, Lee, I heard you're speaking at this month's PSAS meeting. I wish I could make it! Good luck!

Nothing more to do than to be patient. Watch water quality closely. You might do a final copper concentration check to make sure your kit shows nothing (although there is still a very low level of copper likely there).

Sorry you won't be able to make it tomorrow!

5 More days to go! He'll have been in QT for the past 6 weeks since the copper treatment ended. I'm planning on adding him to the DT at night, so as to help prevent any sort of aggression from my other fish. Although I don't see it being a problem, since all I have is 2 Lyretails, a YWG, and a Starry Blenny.

He's looking great, but I'm still really nervous to put him in my DT.

Oh, and he's still eating great and very active. Just thought I'd give an update...

Elliott,

Great news. I plan on adding a cherub and flame angel to my DT. Prolly will be one of the last fishes to add to the DT. Should make for a good splash of color to the tank.

I put him in to my DT today (finally). He looks like he's doing good for the most part, with one exception. I added him while the tank was still dark, and I turned on the actinics for a few minutes just to check him out. Both my Male and Female Anthias are picking on him, as well as my Starry Blenny will chase him from his favorite spots. Is this just some sort of initial aggression? To my knowledge, all of these fish are docile...

I find re-arranging the aquascape often helps out the newcomer as it mixes up the territories and makes it so everyone has to find a new place instead of just the newcomer. I did this when I introduced a second tang of the zebrasona sp. it seemed to work real well.

Many 'docile' fishes are sensitive to newcomers in the aquarium situation. One of the differences between the captive life and the ocean.

Give it a few days. The new fish should be healthy and well fed since you provided it the sanctuary of a quarantine process. See if things don't settle better. Feed all fishes 'too much' during the next couple of days.

Chasing may be okay if the fish chasing does no damage to the other. If it continues beyond a week, then you should take steps.
