Has anyone heard of The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center? This is a PUBLIC high school in New Haven, CT!! Part of their Aquaculture program includes selling things on Ebay, such as Phytoplankton, Clowns, Brine Shrimp, Corals....etc. I recently ordered a bottle of live phyto and a Purple Digitata frag from them.
Well, I just spent about 30 minutes on the phone with this school. It's amazing!!! This is a PUBLIC high school. Math class....they learn boat building, marine navigation, etc. Science classes...they're spawning and growing American Red Lobsters!!! They're also growing several species of food scallops, fresh and saltwater oysters and clams. They're growing Groupers, Clowns (Tomato and Occelaris), and several other species of ornamental and food fish. They're growing about 8 species of Phytoplankton, 6 species of Zooplankton, mysid shrimp...etc. They've successfully spawned Croceas for about a year but have yet to raise them. Music class, they're attempting to decipher Dolphin and Whale communication!!! I spoke with a sudent who's a senior. This kid knows his stuff!! Then I spoke to the head of the AquaCulture program, who's also the Senior Guidance Councelor...AND a Marine Biologist!!! Their students regularly do speaking engagements at conferences like MAACNA and other Marine Conferences around the nation.
Makes me wanna go back to high school!!! Here's a link to their high school. Check out some of the information included in their courses. Also, I did a google search for them. There's write ups in scientific journals and papers all over the place about these kids. Simply Amazing!!
