or that first one.

shes bug'n her tank made it to 81.7 today... so shes all bent outta shape....

i told her calm down. turn the fan on open the window (thats when it went up) turn off the light wait it out a little...

I guess the next solution is a chiller.?

I would avoid the first one. Second one looks cool. I know nothing about them though. A fan on the tank with a thermostat would work just as good if not better than the first one.

The first one is a ice probe stuffed in a aquaclear filter. The price seems a little high IIRC.

nice don a fan.....lol

something like that

i liked the one on top of the aqua clear temp controled fan....

The fan is plenty, but if you really want a chiller. The Ice probes do work and work very well. I have one in my bait tank and there is usually a deal on ebay.

I've heard great things about the ice probe chillers as well and they are pretty cheap. You can also get a temp controller for them as well:)

I love peliters. They work great at removing (transfering) heat.

But, as far as needing a chiller for 81.7 deg? That is my tanks operating temp. If you're worried about temps durring the comming summer months, I would take Don's advice. A fan can work wonders. ;)

does the ice probe have to be installed thur the glass?

No but they do have to stay dry and have good circulation around them. Mounting in the hang-on filter seems like a pretty good idea.
My buddy uses them on his freshwater tanks without the linear controller just hooked to a relay oposite the heaters, not the most efficient but they work.:)

Isn't 81.7 perfectly fine? I thought most reefs average between 78-84. I run my tank at 80-81 intentionally.

hmmmmmmmmm

so what your saying, is the mirco chiller thur the back of the aqua clear we already have?

Does it come with another HOb? and pump?

the controller would work in conjunction with the mirco probe chiller thingy thur the back of the Hob aqua clear?

It will have to go in the lid of your aquaclear. The controller just controls the temp. It varies the wattage of the ice probe based on tank temp. I would think the controller would be manditory on a 5.5 unless you already have a ranco.

Another clean option may be to cut a hole in the aqua clears lid and mount a fan flat. The air would blow down on the water in the filter and the filters outlet would redirect the air across the water surface.
