Chiller maintenance??

With summer approaching I want to know of any of you that run chillers are there any companies locally that can do service on chillers? You know air and heat type service contractors that are familars with reef type chillers.

I want to be able to have mine checked out and not have it out of service more than a few days.

I am coming up on a year of owning mine it is a Pacwest setup and it has become rather noisy at times. It is hard to describe sort of you have to hear it to understand it. I am also thinking that the refrigerant needs to be replenised on occasion also right??

I wish I could figure out what is causing the noise as it is becoming rahter annoying. Funny thing is it only happens when the temps in the tank are on the high side and it is intermittant.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Refrigerant dos not need to be "replentished" Noise could be the compressor or the fan. You may just want to give it a good cleaning with compressed air and oil the fan motor.

Blow it out like don says if it is still too noisy pm me and I will take a look at it. I am a refrigeration tech I look at a lot of chillers but if it only a year old I would bet the fan just has dirt and dust and that is whats making the noise

air compressor the fin's and clean what ever dust you can get off it....


and Ac systems does need to be serviced from time to time depending on the condition of the refrigant in the system but more then likely if it still works then its fine....

well depending on the gas used for the refigerant most new systems use ither

Ive rechaged about 2billion systems, that people said couldnt be done...

to tell you the truth, ive never worked on a chiller... But the concept is the same thur out all refigeration systems....

its ither holding, or leaking the leak could be small.... In that case service will be needed.

r-420a, r-421a, r-421b, r-134a, and 417a all does the same thing...

your ac in your car, your house, your fridge your freezer, are all give or take the same in some way...

My fan recently quit starting on my Aqualogic cyclone chiller and I need to get it fixed. it will run if I spin it but wont start itself. so my question is this: what type of oil should you use on the fan and do you think that is all my fan needs since it will run if I start it?

that would be why your chiller is not working....

the fan cross's air across the condenser which chills the gas by reacting with normal room temp.

try blowing it clean with a aircompressor, and dont be afriad of the wd40, The bareing's might have dry'd up, got dirty just needs a little lube.

it also use'd 134a, (same stuff as in your car most likely)

if you ever damage it, you can go to a HVAC store get a valve evac it (that the special part) and recharge it with some stuff you can get at the autopart store

Your confusing service with repair. If its leaking thats repair, if its dirty thats service.

depending on the type of setup that chiller has you could rig something up just to keep the fan going.

the fan moter takeing it off and cleaning/replaceing with a new one

u need that fan to work end of story.... other wise no chillage

Matt it depends on the fan wether its brush or brushless. Usually they are just junk and you can get one that will work at Mclendons for a few bucks.

Do Not use wd40 on the bearing. It is a solvent not a lubricant it works fine for cleaning elecrtrical parts but will destroy the bearing. Use any 10w oil to lube the bearing. Probably the easiest to find around the house would be powersteering fluid for your truck.
