I am unclear why there is tension here, I believe I said that Mike and I would be talking about this and what the right approach would be. It is very true that RC is a much larger forum and has a much larger membership which makes it much easier for them to develop those kinds of forums, so as we grow here on RF, we need to take one step at a time as our membership builds.

[yawn...]

Chuck, you guys are doing a great job. I also believe things need to be done slowly. I'm not really sure why there is tension here as well. I hope my presentation didn't bore everyone out last night..

Best,

Ilham

Hi,
That is why I suggested making it a captive breeding forum. The people who keep clowns often drift that way eventually, right? And then that would cover bangai's, mandarins and all the other fish people inadvertently or intentionally spawn, getting them immediately in touch with the people who actually know how to raise marine fry-the clownfish people. In the meantime the clown freaks would probably know it's a de facto clown topic site and have fun with it...
I agree that some other sites are a little too big and bloated with specialized forums. What I really hate about them is that their search feature is always "overloaded" but the site tells me if I was to be a paying member they would divert some bandwidth to my request. This keeps me a fan of this site, on top of it the people are really nice here for the most part.
Plus the animal rights people love to talk about us draining the reef for our precious nemo's. Anything we can do to demonstrate that the primary source of clowns is the local breeder or ORA/Petco would help. I think all websites serving marine tank interests should promote captive breeding as much as possible if nothing else than for political reasons. I have tried posing questions on rotifers, breeding shrimp, best clowns for breeding and other related reproduction topics on this site and couldn't figure out where it belonged... general discussion? Advanced topics? Is this question already a dead horse? Does anyone really know more than I can glean from the books I have here at home? Having a nice fresh forum on captive rearing would make it easier to find such topics without boring those who are not at all interested. Of course then the soft coral people might want a forum for them since we have SPS or other hard corals well covered, and I miss the nano forum...
My 4 cents since I already gave 2. Don't mean to be aggravating and I am not aggravated, hope it doesn't sound that way. I love this site and you guys are doing a great job.

Wow interesting... I agree slow and steady is the best way to go... also... I believe I like the idea of clowfish forums...

But of course if a decision is made too quickly it could be rash and problematic, time must be planned to change anything...

Keep up the great work Mtndewman & mojoreef :D

ohh dood Elmo, i really wanted to go to the meeting but the husband had to work at the end :( .
I don't see where the tension is too and even why there's tension in the first place and i do agree with Electrokate by having a captive breeding forum i think that it would be really kewl.
Anyways whatever you guys decide to do i'm sure its gonna be awesome

It wasn't boring Elmo it was fabulous! You did a greattttttttttt job and I hope you think about speaking for many other clubs and programs!

I'm new here but I'm putting in my 2 cents anyway. I think a specialized clownfish forum would be great. RF would be the only forum with a specialized forum just for clowns and clownfish breeding. I believe it would draw alot of traffic to RF. Hopefully, some people as nice as the one's I've had the pleasure of posting back and forth to in a couple of other threads. Do a google search and you will not find a forum just for clownfish (RC has one for clownfish & anemones). It would be a place where people with the same intrest could meet and pick each others brains and learn from one another. There my 2 cents you can't buy any fish with it but there it is anyway. Thanks for letting me share. Mike
