I was wondering what the PAR is of a 250 watt single ended 10,000k coralvue bulb and what the PAR value is of a 400 watt single ended 20,000k coralvue bulb running with PFO ballasts. I can't seem to find that information anywhere. Katchup boy's postings in the library helped for bulbs other than coralvue.

According to that page a CoralVue 10k 250w on a PFO ballast has a PAR of 324

I don't understand that number when these pages list the PAR as a different (much lower) number:

According to Advanced Aquarist
Its 62.9 for the 250w on an m58 ballast.
The 400w is 103.6 found on this page.
 
Yeah I'm a little confused myself. Par vs PPFD. I am worried that a 400 watt 20,000k coralvue will have a lower par than the current 250 watt 10,000k coralvue.

Here are the numbers by Sanjay:

Coralvue 10000K 250 SE 93.80 HQI (M80)
Coralvue 20000K 250 SE 91.14 HQI (M80)
Radium 400W 20000K 400 SE 147.00 PFO - "HQI"

I do not have a Coralvue 20,000K bulb in stock it is a Radium brand. Also there is no information on the 400W Coralvue yet. I've heard that the information will be in the upcoming article by Sanjay in Advanced Aquarist on the 15th of Nov.

PS: I can't remember if you have a HQI ballast or not.
 
ah good :). I am most happy now. Soon so will my corals. I've heard many good things about the radium bulbs. As long as the par is little higher than what it is now, that was one of my main concerns. Thanks a bunch.

Randy, Unfortunately Sanjay doesnt have a Coralvue 400 watt review yet.

But the 250's are on my link.... If they got it from Sanjay then I should have it. It came from the same source. Pay attention to the red texts and at the lower part of the page.

Also, dont be confused between PAR and PPFD. They are totally different units but totally the same results.

Meaning if Bulb A has a higher PPFD versus Bulb B.
Then Bulb A will have a higher PAR compared to Bulb B.

But dont compare PPFD versus PAR. You cannot. Besides, PAR was given by JBNY and PPFD by Sanjay. Im sure they have a different methodology on how they collected the data.

Also, take a look at this spectral graph that I did.

I included the best 250 watt combo I can find out there agains the 400 watt Radium.
As you can see, the radium is almost the same as the 250 but has a lot of of power on the 450's spectrum...

Bottomline, Its like using the best 250 out there with a lot of blue/actinics(not even the same wavelenght) on it.

My Coralvue 400w SE 10K in a PFO reflector running off a PFO HQI ballast highest point read 1325 PAR. That is measured 8 1/2" under the bulb using my Apogee QMSS-ELEC.
