Distilled or RO water

Can you just use distilled water instead RO water for water changes in a reef tank?

I've always used ro/di water. Not sure how many use either distilled or just ro, but I know the majority go with ro/di

Yes you can. Beats tap. Strive for a ro/di

I've used distilled water... I think it's good to use, but it does get expensive.

Anything is better than tap water. I have friend who was using distilled and gave up on it after a few months because of the cost. Buying and RO/DI will cost some up front but saves you money long term and gives you pure water.

Distilled is purer than RO/DI, but expensive to make (and thus buy).

RO/DI is pure enough, and much less expensive if you buy the filters.
