I am putting together a SPS tank. 30 gal for "critters"; 15 gal sump. 250W MH.

What would you suggest as the best way to administer Ca, other essential elements, trace elements, and keep dKH 8-12.

Thank you so much for input :)

Hello;

There is a train of thought --- " I may be the only one on the train though!" --- Use supplements to correct, and Kalkwasser to maintain!

If you use stuff bound to a chloride and stuff bound to a sodium you can only make salt. And, your skimmer and salt deposits will take care of the extra salt.

If you use stuff bound to hydroxide - OH -- you can even make water! Or, Carbonate, bi-Carbonate, Carbonic Acid, etc,.

If you use stuff bound to Sulfate --- "Well, there are a lot of undersea lava vents spewing the stuff." --- You may feed something that eats it --- or it may build up --- either way there is a lot of Chloride and Sulfate in normal sea water.

ive bin doing the geto doseing of mag, and Ca from kent..

i know some of the guys have auto doseing systems... but thats just more to worry about IMO

I have a tunze osmolator that ATO with kalk to my 58g sps/clam setup. It easily maintains my dkh at 8, and CA at 420.

if its still in the start up phase i would just do regular water changes, i think IO has high alk for salt. and if need be, dose an alkalinity supplement..... then when your tank progresses, i would do a calcium reactor. the setup takes a while, but when you finally get the reactor to 'dial in' , its set it and forget it.
