So I picked up a drilled 20L the other day, got it home and then relized that from one of the holes to the top of the trim there is a crack. I'm just wondering what people think, should I use this tank anyway? Just silicone over the crack? The crack will be above the water line but still worried if this is a large strain on the glass.

If this was in your house would you trust it?

Any chance to get a picture? I once had a friend who owned a glass company drill the bottom of my 24 gal aquapod and it ended up having a small crack around the hole he drilled for me. He said it wouldn't spread, but I didn't want to chance my wife throwing the tank and me out in the street if it busted so I never used the tank. :p I'm personally thinking though you might be fine especially seeing it isn't the bottom of the tank where all the weight goes, but I guess it all depends on the size of the crack. If you can, post a picture :).

Here are the pics. The crack is not perpendicular to the glass so it looks like there is a space in the pic but there isn't. I just don't know about using this tank.

Ouch! Not sure who here works with glass but they would be the one's to say whether or not you should use it. I know there is a technique that some glass company's use to stop cracks from spreading and I think it is something to the effect of drilling two really small holes at either end of the crack, but can't say for sure. The fact that it will be above the water level though and also, not the bottom of the tank that holds all the weight, you may be fine. Only person I can think of off the top of my head you might want to ask is Don (DonW). If you don't get the responses here you want, maybe shoot him a pm and see what he says. He messes with anything out there so may have a good idea.

Good luck with it! :)

Yea, probably not best to chance it. I'd imagine a 20L over there should be really cheap. Much cheaper than a disaster from the tank leaking. My crack was nothing compared to yours and I still wouldn't use it
