So I just found my emald crab with it's claw all the way down my sun coral's mouth pulling out maysis shrimp I fed it a few hours ago. Has anyone ever seen this behavor before? I think I might have to banish him to the refrigum.

My cleaner is always taking the food from my duncan! If id have a fuge, it'd be in there! Its juch an aggressive shrimp! It attacks my pipe when it goes by. Also grew about 3\4 of an inch since I had it(2-3moths).

Emerald crabs, athough reputed to be primarily herbivores, can be just as omnivorous as other crab species, which makes them a gamble to put in the tank. I have also read in the past that a large number of emerald crbs found in LFS's are not true emerald crabs, but are a more carnivorous species that are nearly taxonomically identical.

My fish and shrimp pick off my duncans and LPS too. But the sun corals had already completly consumed the maysis shrimp... an dthen me crab comes by and sicks claw/arm all the way down the polyp's mouth... I was shocked. Should have taken a picture... but was too pissed and had to scare him off. Crazy!

Thanks Mike... I'm thinking as soon as I can get ahold of him I'll send him to the refrigum.

My emeralds and peppermints figured out that my sun corals were a great source of food but since the crabs and shrimp are a bit difficult to catch the sun corals went to the frag tank. They're much happier now. Damn crabs. On a side note my peppermint shrimp also decided that aussie acans are also tasty and have been eating my frags. I need a little shrimp harpoon since I can't seem to catch them. They have expensive taste.

Make a pole spear. Take a 1/4" wooden dowel with a sewing needle inserted in the end, pointy end out. Tape a long rubber band to the other end. Hold the pole and stretched out rubber band in one hand, point and release. Works great for anything you can't or don't want to trap.

Most shrimp can be caught in a baited bottle or jar pretty easily

one thing i'd do if you're not already doing it.
cut a soda bottle (you know those 2 gal soda bottles ) and feed your coral with it, that was the crab can't touch it, i used to have this problem with my cleaner shrimp and my brain coral, the same with the sun coral i used to have a long time ago .
