Well, I've finally got our Forum setup and even have the email working (for FREE)!!!

Now I need a few 'guinea pigs' to test it out and find out what all I've setup wrong. Wanna help?

Please use the same name you use here on Reef Frontiers so I know who you are. There certainly isn't much tracking in the PHPBB program I'm using, but it's supposed to be one of the best FREE programs out there.

The hidden forum was already there, I just had to add you guys to it after you registered to have access to it. For the three of you that did register, it *should* be showing now. I even put a notation on the description in hopes if I've done something wrong in the setup, someone would let me know about it. I'm 99.9% sure it's set up correctly though.

It was a lot of work getting it set up and certainly was a learning experience. Besides just the software to run the Forum, I had to install a different web server, plus two other programs. Had to figure out all those programs first to be able to get the Forum up and running. THEN there was the EMail issue. I am SO BEHIND in caring for my tanks!

I am pleased with it so far, but really would like you guys to test out some of the features as there are so many configuration options and I'm not sure exactly what some of them do. PLEASE do let me know of ANY problems you find.

Yes, you did register and I've included you in those that can 'see' the BOD Forum. It's located in the PSAS Announcements.

Did you try doing a number of things while you were there? Did you find anything wrong?

About how long did it take to get the EMail message telling you how to complete your registration?
I'm using GMail to do the email and I know they're not always real quick on sending out messages.

That's good to hear. One of my 'fake' ids took almost 30 minutes to show up. I had figured the email option just wasn't working! Guess for FREE I can't complain too much.

Ed....You need to find the email that the Forum sent you and click on the link in the email to become a Registered User on the Forum.

Thanks Vicki. I could add more but will wait until we make a more final desicion regarding it. I like it so far. Everything is much the same as most forums and is easy to understand and use.

the only thing i would change is add a revolving add banner for sponsors right on the front page/every page, even if it means giving up our color add banner. is this something you can easily do?
and also, give each of our sponsors a sub-forum as well, so that sponsors can make advertising posts in their own forums.

I've been trying to find a way to get the Sponsor's banners showing up, but, so far no luck. The forum software I'm using is FREE, so they don't have all the options the software used on Reef Frontiers has. There's probably a way though, and I'll keep looking.

Adding Forums for the Sponsors is easy and I'll try to get that done later today.

I was just 'taking a break' and caught your message. I disabled it for the moment until I figured out what was wrong. It's back working now, but now I have to find a different *.php editor as NotePad adds some code to the *.php files. So much to learn!

I'm loving it though!

I DID IT :exclaim::exclaim::exclaim: And I was able to keep our banner as well. The ad randomly changes on each 'refresh' of the page now. Sure wish all the Sponsor's ads were the same size though. (It's NOT currently working in the Caribbean Style though!)

Does anyone care if I put out a request message for several different PSAS banners? Maybe should do it on the new forum?

it's really impressive vicki, excellent work!!
and you've made the changes so fast!!! thankless, redundant work i know!
i wish i was smart enough to help!! but mabye the club could pay you for your efforts?? would you like that??
i would consider it a totally appropriate expense, what do others think?
so for ideas, i had a couple more...
i know i was joking, but a skimmer forum would be nice, redundant i know,
but scince it's so easy to add whatever we want, and it's no skin off anybody's nose...
and i'll make it good, so hopefully it will draw people in.
oh! oh! and a front page totm (not motm) section, where we display a pic of the totm just like on RC, and others...
there could also be a thread where the monthly winner could post tank details and answer questions.
would be a sweet way for the members to show off and be involved.

also, mabye some kind of announcement on the front page somewhere saying "everyone is welcome,
that membership to psas is not required to join the forum".
that will be better for our sponsors, scince there will be potentially a larger than local draw.
