Filtration overkill?

I recently set up a 44 gallon corner tank in preparation of breaking down my 115 gal. I want to keep it simple, FOWLR, and no sump, I've had too many floods! The tank came with a Fluval 304 rated for a 70 gal tank which is what I have operating now. My son has a Fluval FX5 he is not using. I am thinking of hooking it up to the 44 gal. I know that this would be overkill but would too much be okay?

Should be fine, you just have to remember to stay on the cleaning maintence on those style filters.

Also with a FOWLR you'll want a decent skimmer.

IMO you can't have too big of a filter. Bacteria wise, it will only have as much bacteria as your system needs to support it. In addition, I can't see a filter "over filtering" anything. Just my opinion though.

I would have to agree with the above statement. I don't believe you can over filter any tank. I have a skimmer, UV sterilizer, 2 socks, and a canister filter rated for a 500g running on my 150. And I have been looking at either adding a Rena XP3 or a Fluval FX5.
