Flatworm Exit

Just dosed my tank with Flatworm Exit... Holly swarm of red flatworms... I did siphon out all of the ones I saw but must have had a ton in the rock work. In the future I'm going to dose at the first sign of them. I've got carbon ready to turn back on and ready to do a 20% water change.

Also, plan on doing the dose a few more times..... you won't kill them all with the first dose

I've been dosing my tank weekly, and still find some here and there after each dose!! The dang flatworms are the devil :smokin:

The swarm is starting die down catching most of the monsters in my filter socks. So far the only casualtys are some cerith snails that litterly fell off the rock work.

brittle stars will fall out too - they come back to life after a day or two Both the brittles and the snails

WC complete. Flatworms gone. All my corals and fish didn't even react. However my cerith snails are all laying on the ground. I've the cerith's in the tank hoping they are only stunned. I'll check them out tomorrow and if they arn't moving around I'll remove them.

FE does have an effect on snails, bristleworms, and brittle starfish. Based on their behavior during the treatment and for about a day after, they appear disoriented and uncoordinated.
To me they appear drunk...
They have always recoveted for me without incident though.
FE does not affect corals, fish, clams, or anemones, but the toxins released by the dying flatworms will.

You will find surviving flatworms, and will most likely have to increase the dosage to kill the survivors.

Thanks. THe snails did rebound as Maxx mentioned they just appeared to be disoriented. I did a followup treatment of Flatworm Exit and it appears I've got some tough little red flatworms left. Unfortunatlly I ran out of flatworm Exit and will need to pick some more up to do the followup treatment.

I'm no expert but many wrasses do a good job on flatworms and are safe for the stars and snails. Just another option

I treated a 3rd time and I still had a couple of stragglers. Today picked up a Leopard Wrasse so we'll see how she does.

I had flatworms also, I dosed my tank about three times with the flatworm exit and also bought a sixline wrasse but ended up taking my rock out and dipping it in fresh water. That kills them pretty fast.

Thanks. The leopard wrasse is doing well. I skipped QT (i know roll the dice) since my QT tank dosen't have sand or live rock for him to pick from. She's picking at the rocks but I see some red worms reproducing on the front of the DT. If it looks like it continues to grow I'll probally treat again this week.

I had a weird chemical spike in my tank (possible leather coral toxin....the leather had issues) that killed all of my flatworms. Some of my mushrooms were stressed for a bit, but my fish and anemone were fine. I have not seen a trace of them since. Not a recommended method, but flatworm exit is a very nice product.

It'll take the wrasse some time to settle in and even begin eating the worms - I dunno, guess its a pet peeve of mine, but the "overnight" wrasse solutions for all our pests rarely work out.

They are very timid fish, and take time before they are comfortable enough to cruise around your tank and make a difference, if they choose to make the worms their primary diet. How is she eating for you? Eating mysis?

I wanted a leopard wrasse anyhow so I didn't pick it up for just flatworm control. When I first added her she did a nose dive into the sand but the next afternoon she is cruising around picking at the live rock. I think she's a bit jet lagged . She's usually out cruising the tank by the time I'm home in the evening and tucked into the sand by 9pm. She's not eating any mysis that I can tell but eating criters on the rocks.

So took two more doses of Flatworm exit spread across two weeks but I think they are all gone. I've made flatworm exit part of my coral dip routine since I think my snails may all be drug addicts now. The last dose of Flatworm exit I had to do almost a 3x recomended dosage since I saw some guys hanging on the rocks not dying and I was tired of doing the massive water changes after dosing.
