Hey any one know how to frag Devils hand soft coral? Is it like figi where you can razor a segment off and affix it to a piece of live rock? Should it be done in the tank or out of the tank? Any help would be appreicated the little devil is growing like gang busters :).

Also, I found out that with the colt coral there is an easy way to frag it. In my case I have half of my tank with crushed coral for substrate and I've been pushing the segments into that and they have been attaching to some of the crushed pieces. I just pulled some of it out of the substrate this morning and it had attached to some grains of sand which I've now glued to a larger frag of live rock. This seems a bit easier than some of the other methods I've read about so I thought I would pass it along.

I just use scissors on my devil's hand and I've usually stuck the frag in a crack of a rock. I've always done it under water in the tank. But what you did with the colt would work just as well with the devil's hand. I dont have substrate so sometimes its a challenge to get them to attach.

i just went bare bottom in my softy tank and was hoping to have corals attatch to the glass ive seen pics on xeina grown on the sides surely they will grom on the bottom?

scissors and razors are all good i frag in and out of the tank depending on what it is

I highly recommend fragging ALL softies outside of the tank. Many of them release a lot of nasties (chemical warfare) when they 'think' they are being attacked.

yeah I have to say my xenia is crazy some of it even made it to the middle of the green star pollop it isnt pretty but it is thier!

i've cut softies with what ever i had handy, scissors are easiest for me. i frag in the tank but that's because of the size of the rock the mother colony is on. i agree they give off lots of toxins when you cut them.
i never glue softies, i use a rubber band to hold them to a rubble rock. my daughter uses a "rubber band" like thing for her hair. i'm not sure what it's made of but it doesn't break down in salt water like rubber bands do. i think my wife gets them at walmart but i'd guess they'd be at any of the big box stores. they come in lots of colors and are i little less stretchy than rubber so they don't "cut" the softie. works quick and makes fragging and mounting go fast.
