It's been a few years since I took my tank down. My basement is almost down so that means the tank is going in wall with a fish room. Still trying to decide between between cc and some sand. As for flow I'm thinking of two koralia evo(750gph) and a mag 9.5 return on a scwd. AquaC ev180. I'm also trying to decide if I should go in sump refulgem or a external. Sorry for the rant, just excited.

hehe

+1 on what charlie said - sand is better :) the large porous nature of crushed coral can give you headaches later on as large chunks of detritus can get trapped (IMO) and its easier for fish to play in (if you decide to get fish that like to play in the sand, which, who wouldnt??)

Good luck setting up the tank! I won't comment too much on the sand as I am a bare bottom freak, but if I had to choose, I'd go with a finer grained sand than crushed corals. Crushed corals was a complete nightmare for me.

As for flow, sounds like a good starting point. May or may not be enough flow, but that's roughly about a 35x turnover rate. Rockwork plays a major role and you'd want to avoid any deadspots. I ran a about a 600 gph return through a sea swirl on my old 75 gal and 2 tunze streams (1600 gph and 1850 gph) and that did the trick for me. My tank was however bare bottom so a sand storm wasn't a concern.

Good luck with the setup and make sure to post some pictures! :)

Thx Krish :):).

With just sofites and LPS, which is not a good combination to start with, (see coral warfare), I don't think that the turnover rate is gonna be that critical. 35 times turnover rate is not bad with sand, otherwise, he will be picking sand out of his eye teeth.

Urban, please do some research as to what you want to inhabit your reef, as I said before, softies and LPS is not a good combination.
