Boomer,

Ive been playing with gfo trying to come up with a better smaller way to use the stuff. I put 4 tlf reactors on the tank. One running at 60gpm the others at 40 20 5. They all have the same amont of gfo 150 grams screened and rinsed. I made a little cartridge filter that pulls water up through the media (150 grams)with a peri pump sucking the water up through. Its pulling 200ml hr or very close to it.
After two weeks of run time I had the effluent water tested by spectra. The only one that was truely close to 0 phosphates was the little catridge.
Since my tank stays undetectable with a salifert without any gfo do you think this 200ml or .8gph cartridge will do anthing more than be another thing I have to take care of. Water is about 150 gallons total.

Thanks
Don

Don,

I'm not familiar with "gfo"??? From the rest of your post, I take it that it is something similar to RowaPhos???

I would agree it is just another toy/s you have to mess with. I would use the Warner Marine if you decide to run just 1 unit and only the DIY. However, the Warner has much greater capacity and does not require a reactor either to ge it to work, so no reactor/s to mess with if you wish. It just needs water flowing through it like GAC or like your DIY cartridge works and you do not nee to get picky on flow rates. You could put it in the sump. The Warner is a porous GFO and not a solid one like the rest. With that all said, even though your PO4 test is zero, in which case it is really not zero, I would still run the DIY cartridge or canister filter or in sump.

Thanks thats what I'm after. Just need to know wether or not the .8 gph cartridge would be worth having. It really is a cool little gizmo and very cheap. I can just pop it off a jg fitting and replace it with another, clean out and reuse later. Beats the whole reactor thing.

Thanks
Don
