Morning all, Today is the day the cleaning process starts to get my tank back in shape and the first task I have is to get rid of those anemone's.
I have to remove a few of the rocks anyway to remove clean and add more sand and was wondering if I soak these rock in fresh water for a few hours will that kill them ? There is no other coral on the rock except for coralline algae. Already have GFO running in a reactor to help out.
I did a 30 gallon water change two weeks ago and I'm going to do another this afternoon.

If you got aptasia or mojano anemones then a file fish works great for that my mojano's are about wiped out after a month of having him. When his job is done then I will give him to someone's else's tank to do it again

+1 on the file fish. Mine took care of the majonos i had pretty fast. Soaking it in freshwater may kill the rock, but i think some of the cells remain if theres aptasia or majono. Soak it overnight would be better, rinse it off real good, then let it dry.

I believe it's called a matted files fish. ocean by design is where I got mine or you can keep an eye out on the classified I see people give them away or sell them really cheap. There is a chance they may nip at corals but mine never did

Yup it's a Matted Filefish. They are great for eating Aiptasia, but they will also nip at zoanthids or other soft corals. I don't think I have heard of them really picking at LPS or SPS, but I could be wrong.

Just be cautious!

I've had a Matted Filefish in my softy tank for 7-8 months and in my LPS/SPS tank for 3-4 months and never had a problem with it bothering any corals.
