To make a long story short, I have had a 37 gal zoanthid cube up and running for 2 months or so. Today when topping off my sump I noticed my glass heater had exploded in my sump. All of my recently transferred, designer Zoas have not opened. I have cleaned out the sump an installed a new
Heater to get my temp in check. I have a felling this is disaster due to exposure to the metals in the heater. Am I right?

As long as you get it out you will be fine. The electricity is probably a bigger problem.

Sorry to hear...I had a thermometer break and all of the little pellets got into my sump! I cleaned it all up and all was well. I agree with Don...Electricity running through the water can cause some issues for your tank inhabitants. Hope all turns out well. :)

That's funny, my Marineland Stealth Pro had a 3inch split down it today (saw it once i got home) and pushed my temp up to 81o. Removed and replaced with new and did a water change.

I would run carbon, pick up a polyp filter to detect whether or not there are metals in your tank. I have to agree that most if not all of the damage or reactions you are seeing is probably from any discharge or electrical current in your tank.

Outside of not opening are you seeing any flesh deterioration or discharge? If not that I would guess that you are ok. Might be peaved for a day or 2 but they usually bounce back after almost anything. IME anyway.

thats what crashed my tank but mine soaked for a few days and lost most of my zoas

Yeah the couple pieces of sps are the most affected. I had a nice piece of encrusting hydnophora that was dischargeing some white stuff and can see through to the skeleton. This was one of my favorite pieces. But I did notice my nightmares starting to open up just before my lights went out. I am really about my hornet collection hope they pull through.

I hope they do too....if not I have a full collection for you to chose from...I am sure we can work something out. I have purple, red, and blue.

I would definately run carbon and do a good water change, but the electricity would also be of concern to me. I had recent experience with shocking my tank.

Everything lived except 2 small sps frags, but it took a while for everything to come back around. I had the same thing going on, zoas closed and SPS sliming. It is actually the coral expelling it's symbiotic algae. You will notice that your tank will probably have bleaching throughout most of the corals. Keep up on everything, and most should be alright! Good luck!

Interesting thread.....very happy to hear most survived the ordeal. Did you add a cover or GFI?

 I've been meening to install gfci plugs all throughout the tank area.

This is what my girlfriend thinks of the situation

Funny....my wife feels the same way about coral. She is totally not into it.

My girlfriend loves the reef tank too, but pretends she doesn't when she's mad about something.

Mine stopped liking it when it changed from a fish tank to a coral tank. Now that we are back into fish she is back into the tank. For once....she actually wanted to feed our inhabitants....hasn't done that since the FW days.
