Don't have the time, huh? Took me 3 seconds to find this:

The Red Finger Gorgonian is also referred to as Red Tree Gorgonian, or Colorful Sea Rod. An attractive branching tree-like coral, it is extremely brittle and breaks easily, making it easy to propagate in this way. It basically is available in two color variations being bright orange-yellow with red and white polyps, or deep red to purple with white polyps. This sea fan will usually grow in small and sparsely branched colonies.
The Red Finger Gorgonian is peaceful, but it should be given adequate space away from neighboring corals or anemones. Underwater epoxy is commonly used to anchor its base to a piece of live rock in the reef aquarium. It is difficult to maintain even in the well-established reef system. It is not photosynthetic and requires a low level of lighting to ward off a build-up of microalgae. It also requires a stronger water flow and the addition of iodine, calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
Since it is not photosynthetic, its survival is dependent on regular and frequent feedings of micro-plankton, live, baby brine shrimp, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates.

well you said ' just dont have the time to really start looking around ' and I said it only took me 3 seconds to find some information via Google.

Please keep us updated on the health of your azooxanthellate gorgonian, along with pictures if possible. If you make changes to your system to accomodate its needs, and what you feed, how you target feed, etc, then please post these as well. It may help someone else in the future that purchased one without knowing the care level of this non-photosynthetic coral.

I am thinking the same thing. People should be able to ask questions without being attacked.

I'm sure I will be picked to pieces for saying this especially seeing now I am labelled as a "mod" which puts me even under a magnifying glass more than before, but anyways, I agree with Brad here...That is what the forum is here for. To ask questions. I feel when a person becomes afraid to ask a question, then we have a problem! We may not all agree with some people's approach to things because it may not be the way we were taught to do things, but that's why there is a such thing as constructive criticism. That's why I reply the way I do to things in a nice way...It gets the point across while at the same time making the other person still feel comfortable about being here. Just like my reply on Jon's last thread (burning2nd's). I didn't agree with how he threw something in his tank without knowing about it because it was free, but no reason for me to be mean about it and bash him. Maybe he didn't know any better...How am I supposed to know that? The same goes for other members...If a newbie saw a person being attacked for asking a question, they may never ask a question here ever so I think we should all try our best to help one another out and be as nice as we can when we can. I feel if you can't say something nice sometimes, better to not say anything at all and ignore a thread/post. Just my 2 cents...And it has nothing to do with your post Matt. You know we're cool:)...I'm just speaking generally because I see it played out time and time again:)

About your gorgonians Jon, mine aren't exactly the same, but mine came out of the ocean in waist high water where there is a lot of flow and of course, a lot of light. So I try to mimic that in my tank and so far, things are going well. I havent had any die on my yet, but like some mentioned before, it may take a bit longer than a few months to see its decline. I guess I'll know if I'm doing the right thing in another few months, but so far, it's high flow, good lighting and I feed coral frenzy and stir up detritus:)

Dude, I don't take this personally. I just think people should accept responsiblity and do some research. I apologize to burning2nd if it came across as an attack.

ROFL...I'm never asking another question here...hehehe:oops:

I am impressed. It took me 9 seconds just to type gorgonian.:D
keep looking for somewhere where my retired pay will go further.
Fiji;)

Fiji?! Really? Is it super inexpensive? (thinking about snorkeling for critters for my tank already)
By the way, Brendan, I have a white boxer and an English bulldog, both of which have faces like your pic!

Fiji is a very poor. The resorts are priced in porportion to America but if you live with the people $100 goes a really long way. Just depends on how you want to live. Even in poverty money can not get you anything. I also have a friend who retired and spends 9 months about every 2 years in Guatemala diving etc. It is the same way. My avatar is my english bulldog "Mack".

hey burning,
I did notice on the original picture that there was some algae growing on the gorgonian already. I would carefully blow off that algae if possible without harm and move it away from direct light. perhaps under an over hang or something.
