Hello NSR my name is Ed. I live in Oak Harbor and like most of us here I am in the Navy. I am lucky enough though to be sationed in my home town so I am a tried and true North Sounder and I wouldn't consider myself a complete nube but I have a lot of learning to do.

I was recently pointed to this and the PSAS web site by NWDiver on an excursion I made to Everson this week. Might I say 750 gallons of pure reef awesomeness was something I am glad I skipped work to see. I also met some really great guys and learned a thing or two. I am currently working on taking our tank (90 gallon show) to the next level. I am going to add an RO/DI system as I think my city water is contributing to my algae bloom. The Culigan man was nice enough to spare some water, at a higher price than I would like to keep paying, for my planned partial water change tomorrow. I was wondering. Should I stick to a partial and leave it at that until my next scheduled one or give it a week and do another? I plan on doing about a 20% this time 20 gallons total. Also what RO/DI units do you recommend without breaking the bank? Last but not least are there any good Marine Aquarium stores up north without having to drive all the way to Seattle? I look forward to learning along the way and hopefully meeting quite a few members.

GO HAWKS!! :cheer2:

:welcome: to the site!!!!you should come out to floyds house tomorrow for the PSAS jan meeting. Im glad there is another on the island i can trade with. oh yeah and post up some pictures

Hey Jeremy? WELCOME to Reef Frontiers and hope you'll will join us at North Sound Reefers and PSAS as well. I'd do your planned 20g water change and then see if you can bring some empty buckets/water jugs to one of the many generous club members for some RO/DI for next weeks change. The sooner you can export nitrates/phosphates and unwanted elements from system the better. Look forward to meeting you at one of the upcoming club functions.

Cheers, Todd

Let me see how long it will take me to get the water change done. I am on the PSAS website as well but for the life of me I could not find the post on the get together.

I am sitting here now trying to figure out wich RO/DI to purchase. I will keep researching. Any sugjestions?

HEY HEY I'm Jeremy LOL!!! It was nice meeting you the other day Ed, and glad to see that you made it here, Looking forward to meeting up with you again.

Hey Ed this is Floyd, I would be more then willing to make you some RO/DI water. If you go down to the Country store they sale food grade water barrels and if you brought it up I could make about 75 gallons aday. So that is one way we could get you enough water to get your change done. As far as the site goes I am sure that you find an answer to everything that ever wanted to know, and most of the time I put out stuff you didn't want to know. There are a lot of good people here on the island , all of our brethren close by and of course all of the cool people here on the site.

Hey Ed, my bad so sorry and Jeremy your still invited :welcome:. Looking forward to meeting both of you. My brain is not the same after enduring the vision of Floyd in that Borat suit :banplease:

Todd

:welcome: to RF and look forward to seeing your set up and meeting some time at one of the meetings. RF has been an awesome site to me with a wealth of information and very helpful and outgoing people.

For the first time EVER thus far I'm going against the grain and am going to go against Todd's advice... :( (nothing personal old man :D )

I would save up enough RO/DI water to do about 3 or 4 WEEKLY 40 - 50% water changes with RO/DI water.

As far as stores go...

Island Pet Center is decent. Go in with Ffloyd and meet Brian, get to know him and you will get some extra good service :)

As far as fish go outside of Island Pet, sorry bro, you're out of luck.

You have Clark's Feed & Seed in Bellingham (Some people hate them, some LOVE them.) I went in there and I would go there again.

In Marysville you have Reef Keeper Supply & Something Pets (Can't remember the name) by Joanne Fabrics.

Then your show stopper stores are in, yes Seattle area.

A Red Sea Aquarium (Rob does an excellent job & has nice exotic fish quite often. He's also a wealth of knowledge)
Barrier Reef in Renton (Another very high quality store. Very knowledgeable staff.)

^---- These guys are sponsors to the site and I try to frequent them once a month or so, if for nothing else to swing in and visit.

Denny's Pet world in Kirkland

There are also a couple of online places that are sponsor's as well.

I've only used one.

Les @ Wet Pets Hawaii
I have spent LOTS and LOTS of money on stuff from Les as have tons of other members.

Oh yeah Welcome to "The Rock" (NAS Whidbey)
and welcome to RF!!!

Hi Ed, I'm glad you made it to Floyd's house today. Now you have a few new corals to play with!
I was going to offer water, but since you have Floyd and Justin nearby, I guess you are set.
I hope someone will point you at the sponser on this site for RO/DI, I have used thefilterguys and received outstanding service.
Welcome to the site, and the gang of oddballs that make-up the local reef community.
I think I would lean toward Ryan's plan of rapid water changes to get things under control as soon as possible.

The wife and I had a great time and learned a lot. Matter of fact I ordered our RO/DI when we got home from Air, Water and Ice. Finally got the water changed this evening and the aquarium already looks better. I am going to do a 20 gallon or so water change weekly for the next few weeks until I get this algae problem under control. I have also been researching Sea Hares after talking with Jeff. Man those things are some algae eating machines. Youtube had some neat footage of them going to town on hair algae. I couldn't get over all the frags. I felt guilty leaving with so much, but I make this offer I have the two Galaxias one is green the other is more blue I am more than willing to give out frags from that. They both started off as one single stalk.

Oh yeah! When you frag that, save me a piece!
There is a meeting of the North Sound Reefers at "a red sea aquarium" next Saturday if you are interested.

Take care of yourself over there my friend and when your back I'm sure we can make room for one more SQUID in the Club

Hey buddy,

To all us youngin's out here 40 is still old, even if it is the new 20 :D

Hey, that is enough of the old man talk. I am 33 years old and still feel as young as ever. Though the kids have put a few grey hairs on my head, still no need for walkers just yet. So I did want to say since I have been busy, It was nice having all of you guys out here. The family had a good time too. So Ed, if you ever need any help just let me know. I am more then happy to assist. Glad you made it out here, hope to see you at more meetings.

im not that far behind you floyd i hit the big 30 in may!!!!!!! hey im glad you made it out and had a good time...when you rag out that galaxia coral let me know i would like some if i dont have it already.

No problem on the Galaxia I will be sure to let you know when I think there ready. I might take you up on that one Floyd. My next project is to fix my return lines. I am hoping to get the RO/DI unit this week in time for this weekends planned water change. I am also hoping to get a Sea Hare to help clean off these rocks. The toothbrush worked good but there is still a lot to be done. :(
