I'm hoping someone will have some experience with this. The mat on my green star polyps that I purchased had formed into a circle with a hollow center, almost like a stick of licorice. There are polyps on all sides of the formation.

My question is how many days should it take for one to attach? Second, should I cut it down one side and roll it flat against a rock so that all polyps are facing up? Will the polyps down side attach?

You can certainly cut it if you want. You can glue it in place or use a rubberband to hold it where you want it to attach. They grow crazy fast, so be sure you like them where you start them, they will be pretty tough to remove from rock once they establish.

You can flaten it out with the polyps facing up and glue it down with gel super glue.
I glued some on the back wall of my tank and now it's growing all across the back.

That sounds awesome with it growing on the back wall!

So I do have to cut it then to get it to lay flat. That sounds like the consensus anyway. That's scary, but the more I hear about this stuff, the more unkillable it sounds.

I was going to ask about supergluing anyway, because I've read a lot about it. Every time I try it, even with superglue gel I end up with a dried out mess on the surface of the water. I bought some Instant Ocean Holdfast today. Will that work out ok? anyone got experience with that?

I have not used that product.
I typically use 2P10 Gel, works great and the bottles don't seal themselves shut.
If you want to minimize the surface skim, just glue what you can out of the water and give it a swish in a cup of saltwater.
I have never noticed any ill effects from using superglue in the tank, and lord knows I have added a ton!

I don't know about having to cut it. It should open up and with a little pressure stay flat while you glue it to,,,,,,, a rock?.
I've only used super glue gel. Unless it's a cyanoacrylate glue, I'm not sure it will work for what you need.

whatever you are using the superglue on just take it on and let it cure for a second in air.. then hold it steady where you want it to stick, after a few mintues of holding your coral very still it will be attached... The holding apart only applies when gravity cant do the work for you.

Yeah, I eventually did. Crazy glue gel combined with instant ocean holdfast worked like a dream.

I rolled the instant ocean first, put a bubble of glue on top on it, then pressed the frag down onto the glue. Wetness of the frag made it quick dry. Haven't had it fall off this time!
