For many the name might not be recognizable, but some of us that have been around for awhile the name is very familiar. Unfortunately Greg Schiemer has died due to complications with cancer. For those interested here's more info:

While many times we debated and disagreed with him regarding different approaches to how we should keep our tanks it is a very tragic loss indeed for the reefing community. For those who don't know who he was or never got to see/hear him here's his presentation on IMAC 2005 on a video format.

Jorge,

Thank you for putting this up. I didn't know. It seems like we are of same mind. He was fairly cantankerous and we've shared some PM's back and forth disagreeing on things but he knew I respected him and I think (hope) he respected me right back.

This is absolutely horrible. :( He was WAY too young for this.

I'm sad for his family and I'm also sad for his extended family. By extended family, I mean the reefkeeping community that has benefited from his existence whether they've heard of him or not.

Oh my - I had no idea. Thanks for posting. As with Curt, I'm sad for everyone in his immediate family, and for the reefkeeping community.

Condolences to his family. I have just listened to part of his speech on streaming audio via the internet. It is very informative, and this is definitely a loss to the hobby and the reefkeeping community :(

Best,
Ilham
