Half way there!?

It's taken a couple of months but my male clown has finally "made nice" with my BTA! I can only assume the female will follow suit?

The last couple days have been interesting, watching him approach the anemone only to end up twitching from the stings. But today he is nuzzling right in with no more twitching. Neat!

The pair has also been acting a little different, not related to the anemone. They are frequently swimming with bellies very close to the black overflow box. They hang around that area a lot, but this seems to be different activity. Are they possibly thinking about spawning? I don't suppose any babies are likely to survive in a tank with other fish, but if they are preparing to spawn is there anything I can do to make them more comfortable?

Don't be surprised if your female decides that the anemone is to her liking and kicks the male out for awhile. Clownfish are wierd sometimes; they may have decided to "host" with the overflow box as well as the anemone.

There really isn't much you can do for the clowns, though if you want to raise the fry, putting them in their own tank would be best. Once they decide they are ready to spawn you'll see them clearing an area by fanning sand away from it with their tails and maybe even moving small rocks and/or coral frags that don't suit their idea of home decor.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to keep that book in mind.

Don't really have another tank to put them in, so it will have to be every man for himself if they do lay any eggs.

How can i tell the difference between male and female gold stripe maroon clownfish and how do you get them to be a pair? Answers most apreciated

oldsalty - the female maroon clown will be much larger in size than the male at mature size. I'm not sure there is a way to "get them" to become a pair, other than letting them do it on their own. If you have some more questions, start up a new thread, then we can focus on your specific fish. Hope this helps
