They do have a bit of a humm when running but, if you are already using or own a MJ 1200 that you want to put to good use. They move alot of water and its well worth the $16 upgrade. I have two and feel its money well spent.

I have 2 modded 900s in my 55. they claim 1600 gph. if I run them both at the same time, it just makes a big sand storm. I have them alternating on a 3 minute timer. if you want to run 2 at a time, I would suggest a something smaller. they do chatter sometimes when they try to start in reverse.

if you do not already have the maxi-jets, there may be some better options.

the suction cup mounts aren't enough with the mods. when they fall, they make an instant hole in the sand. if you are going to buy the PH, the mod, and the magnetic holder, it's gonna cost you about $55. you can get these power heads already put together for less. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Plumbing-and-Pumps-Powerheads-Hydor-Koralia/c14_90_92/index.html

I have never used the Koralia PH.

I have two of the koralia 4's. They are definately quieter than the MJ mod. I would bet that they run cooler too. The Koralia 4's chatter far more than the MJ on start up when used with a wave maker. The MJ mods are smaller.

This is a huge factor for a larger tank though.

K4 = 1200 GPH for $50
MJ 1200 with mod = 2000+ GPH for $55

I have two of each. Id go with the MJ mod.

I have the MJ mod on a MJ400 in my daughter's 29 gallon, and love it. I can't believe the difference, and it was worth the money. I also have it hung by the magnet kit.

They rock. The ability to direct and aim the flow is a nice improvement over the mjmods version. Better spin, better fit, quieter and better materials....they are seriously plug and play. I bought 2 to try them out, and 2 months later they were so solid I went for 2 more.
