I am getting close to getting my New tank up and going. It seems like forever waiting for little things. My question is..Have you ever heard of a UV being placed on a Drain line? I have two return lines going into my sump. I figured if I split one and put a Gate valve on it I could put one line into my frag tank and use the other line to go back into sump. I would add my UV in the middle of my little frag tank. I figured it would save me money not having to supply another pump to power my UV. Again, Has anyone heard of anybody doing this?
Thanks In Advance,
Ed

Ed,
You really should skim first. The uv is to kill the rest. What it doesnt kill it can sterilize (cant make babies). Its usually the last step in the filtration process. The big nasties that are uneffected by uv will just go back into the system to breed so you need to skim them out. Does that make sense?

yes...so your oppinion would be to add my UV to the my skimmer outlet?
Thats a cool idea. I am concerned with how it will affect my skimmer.

Maybe plumb off your return then to your frag tank. I dont think you can hook up your ER output, that would mess up your skimmer adjustment. I would just run the cleanest water possible through the uv.

OK, But what is ER Output? I am lost for a sec. I am still wondering if I can use skimmer outlet. I have watched people using elbows on The Euroreef skimmers to run water back into water. The elbow supposeably quiets the skimmer. The outlet on a Euroreef is pointed upward. I wonder if I used a elbow and then went down into UV. I may play with this idea.

Alot of people add the elbows to eliminate the sponge. If you restrict or change the height of that riser tube your going to raise the water level in your skimmer.
