I seem to have a constant fight with some kind of black algae that seems to attack a selected few sps in my tank, in particular my pink stylo tips.
Parameters are spot on and no measurable nitrates or phosphates. Here is a photo that shows an example of what I am talking about.
Any ideas?

Looks like you just fragged it...I would just cover it w/ superglue. It's happened to a couple of my corals after I had fragged them. Not sure if this is the cause but from the pic that's what it looks like.

Hi Greg,
It looks like a flow issue to me. As SPS corals mature they need more flow to flush away their metabolic wastes. A general guesstimate is double the flow every few years. My 550 is up to 23,000gph and it could easily use another 5,000gph.

Stylophora pistillata is not a particularly strong defensive coral and is a weak defender against other corals and algae.

Cheers,
Kevin

Thanks for the input you guys. I thought the flow was ok because the other stylo next to it is fine but maybe it is keeping the flow to itself. Interestingly enough I have moved that piece around in the past year to several other locations and it happens wherever I put it. It just seems to be an algae magnet, however when I take an insurance frag it is fine in my frag tank. I guess I'll find a way to beef up the flow. I'm running out of room for powerheads.
