I've had her for almost 3yrs! She's been through a lot of late. Been battling cyano don't ya know eh. 2x ChemiClean treatments a couple month apart. 2x lights out a couple months apart. All new lamps added in February. Then a crab got stuck into my ato float switch and dumped 2g's of RO/DI into tank. Lowering to SG from 1.025 to 1.023
Well the last week I've seen an increase in her mantel color as it was somewhat faded. Thinking it was due to old lamps and now the new lamps were helping. Now the past 3 days she's closed up way more then what I'm use to seeing. Usually she wide open! Today she's looking like this. But with much better color and I see new growth on her shell.

I'm not a clam guy, but mine was closed up for a few days before it spawned then back to open and fine. changes in the water can induce the little heshe. heard reports of a simple thing like big carbon change can do it. good luck!

Ever get the feeling you are talking to yourself? sorry this forum isn't what it used to be and you went through this on your own.

sorry for your loss. I lost one a few days ago too. Found out there was a large aiptasia right behind it where the clams byssal opening was. I am guessing that is what killed it. I'd had it for a year. never moved and was always open.
Anyway, most of the time, there is no telling something is wrong till its too late and then its also hard to diagnose what the issue is. Dont be affraid to try one again. Do a little more research and learn from it.

Thing is we don't get them around here much. This one was a steal at $50, and I actually had competition as to who was going to make it to the LFS first-lol. No way can I afford the asking prices online + shipping!

Yeah particularly shipping prices. I bought a small squamosa on line once. The price for the clam was reasonable. Ive had it for little over a year now. I'm leary about having animals shipped, but they did a good job shipping this one.
