I was looking for some infromation on the Yellow Candy Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus) the only place I have really found information was here at http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1157&N=0

I know most Hogfish are not reef safe. But on Liveaquaria it says that this hogfish is perfectly safe. Does anyone know if this is true?
Does anyone have any other info on this fish?

I have never had one, but i do have a yellow wrasse and it seems to look alike. I think that because it will only get 4" you should be fine as long as all the motile inverts are in the tank before it is. If you do try to add anymore inverts, you can do like i do (because of my trigger) by putting them in at night time.

Good luck:)

For future reference, look for information using it's Latin name, not common name. There is oodles of good information out there on this species.

This is actually a very reef friendly fish but as with any of it's Genus, that may change as it matures. Sessile invertebrates are of no consequence but decorative Crustacea species may be harassed/eaten if added after it.

What fish tank mates? Meek tank mates are not a good idea.

I have one. But he's in my FOWLR.
I have had him for almost 2 years now and he's never bothered anything. He has had a few little fights with my Clowns, but other than that he's a great fish!
I have even noticed him 'cleaning' the larger fish at times

He may give the Firefish a hard time once he's established himself..
They also like to carpet surf..Is your tank covered? Mine was originally in my old 125, he had jumped out several times. The last time, he was very close to dead. I'm not sure how long he'd been out but he wasn't moving:eek: I noticed his gills still moving so I put him back and down to the bottom he went:( But he got up, went behind a rock and was out and about like nothing the next day:rolleyes:

Agreed, any dartfish will be a problem if housed with the/any Hogfish. Other than that, not much of a concern.
