hi guys,

i was away on a long vacation (1.5 months), leaving my stable 55 gallon reef only tank under the care of a friend. Infact the only thing he was to do was to check the water level and salinity and temperature. When i come back everything seems to healthy and infact grown a lot more big, except one of my purple-pink kenya tree seems to be missing. What remains in place of it is the stone from which it grew. I left my coral healthy and very big... thought of propagating. :(

It rested near a brown mushroom. Could it be possilbe that it grew so big, that my mushrooms stung/ate it?

The ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, calcium, ph readings are perfect.
The only thing new is the growth of the bubble algaes.

pls help me.
:(

Welcome to Reef Frontiers!

Hmmm....interesting. Does your friend also have a reef tank except it has a new kenya tree? ( ;) j/k) Did the tank sitter indicate it didn't look good at any point in time while you were gone? What else, besides the mushrooms, do you have in your tank?

HI :)
No, our friend does not know anything about aquariums. He does not own one... and it would be a waste to ask him whether there was anything wrong with the tank.

Apart fromt the mushrooms, we have a red brain coral. coral candies ( i left with 4 at each ends, they are now 12 in total), Bubble corals (far away from the kenyatree), some star polyps (fragmented now to 4).

thanks for your help.

thanks for your help.

12? in a month and a half? Wow, thats some growth. You should check the liquor cabinet. Any Vodka left? Your friend may have been dosing your tank while you were gone. "One for me, one for the tank. One for me, one for the tank...

Soft corals are mainly water IMHO if it were to die, it could of rotted or been eaten by things in the tank. If your candycanes were ready to split when you left I guess it could have happened, Mine usually take alot longer but of course we have differnt tanks. Maybe it died and whoever felt so bad the got you something else. Who Knows, next time get you a spy cam and while your gone watch it on the internet. Hah hahhah. Steve

Pics? You mean the whole tank? sure i will post one later this afternoon.

Wrightme43, what do you mean by IMHO? My candy canes were ready to split then, but they were only 5-6, now they have doubled. My kenya tree was no where near them. They were placed between the mushrooms and those ones look huge. Interestingly while i was cleaning the aquarium yesterday, I saw some thing growing from the base of the rock (where the coral was situated), it has something like 4 very small, green (glowing), button like corals. If I am able to have a good shot, i will post this one too.

Spy cam seems to be a good idea... infact many things from the house seems missing or misplaced. :)

here is the pic of the tank excluding the bubble coral, another candy coral and star polyps. the other one didnt come out as clearly i expected.
