is it possible that the 290g submersible pump I got along with the 100g submersible pump together are generating enough heat to raise my 10g tank temp to 83-84? i heard that high was really bad. I can't get it to go down. i'm not running any lights so that's not the problem. it's about 70-75 in my house(ambient temp). i got a heater in there, but it's never on cause it's set to 76.I opened the windows today cause it's like 55 outside and that brought the temp down to 82, but I still think that's really high! I don't want everything to die off cause I can't figure this out. I need some advice quick. there's no way I can go out and get a chiller either.
thanks
TOny

82F isn't bad...I keep my tank at 81F with a 2 degree swing so it will go as high as 83F. Some pumps and/or powerheads add heat to the water. Doesn't matter the size. I had a small JBJ powerhead that heated up my 75gal a few degrees and it was only a 260gph powerhead! I wouldn't panic just yet though Tony. You don't have any fish or corals in there for the temp to affect them, and even so like I said, 82F isn't bad. The range people usually shoot for is 78-83F. The only problem with allowing the temp to sit so high is if there was an issue like power outtage etc. then you won't have very far to go before your temp rises too much. I'd unplug the powerheads (one at a time) and see if you can find which one is causing the problem:)

i agree with Krishant, 82 is not that bad you wanna start worrying when the tank is at 86 :p, even at 86 i wouldn't worry about because like Krish says you dont' have fishes or corals... fishes can handle temperature a little bit better than corals in my own opinion.
Start unpluging powerheads and stuff and see what's causing the problem dood but you're fine dood dont' worry :) .

i would worry about 82 if you are going to turn the lights on..one of my tanks pretty much stays between 79-82, but that is with some pretty hot lights over it..if your tank is 82 without lights, what is it going to be when you turn on the lights??? it may depend on what type of lights and how much heat they produce...

I would also check the heater and make sure it is not coming on when you think it is not. Heaters are bad for this. A small fan blowing on water surface will cool your tank much better than a open window.
