My 10 gallon nano tank is having a huge problem. i have 2 clown fish and one yellow goby. There is 2 65 watt lights on the tank.
In the past few days the live rock that is in the tank started to grow brown type of algea all over the rocks. today i did a water change and now the goby is breathing heavy and isnt moving around. the clown fish are also doing the same thing and staying in one general area on the sand. there are also bristle worms all under and in the rocks and they have come out and are what seems to be dieing.
i am in the process of checking all my stuff but if there is anything anyone can do to help me please let me know. i dont want my fish to die.

well you need to test your water parameters and quick, how long was the new water mixed for before you did your water change?
Check your PH, ALK, Temp, Nitrates, Amonia and post the results..

Matt

The new water was mixed and settled for about 15 min before adding to the tank. RO water was used.
Amonia: .05
Nitrates: 0-.25
Salinity: (used by a refractor meter) 1.021
Slowly bring up salinity.
9 watt UV Sterilizer is hooked up too

how are u mixing water then salt right if u are not the reaction is diff many will have other apinions but that ro id water i hope if not it is only a matter of time bang ahhh it is cyano bacteria most likely . red slime remover or suck it out ...

I gallon at a time. Water in the clean jug then salt ...let it dissolve, shake it and then add the new salt water slowly.

you must mix your water, airate it and circulate it for 24 hrs before adding to your tank, that new water will burn your fishes gills!

Matt

Thanks will just have to wait and see what will become thanks for all of your advice. Ill let you all know tommarow what the outcome was

Small tanks like this you need to be careful & mix well because the smallest differences will have large affects on the tank, these small tanks change rapidly & stress the fish out to the point of sickness or even death. Take your time & mix water well, match the temp. & salinity to your tank then add as needed for a wc!

Sounds like to me your tank didn't finish cycling. Ammonia and nitrites should test 0. Water changes will help. How long has the tank been set up??

Sounds like you got too many fish too fast. I would only get two fish for a tank that size. You should never have detecable amonia levels when you have livestock.

15 minutes? Matt is right.

Wow, you are lucky they're not dead yet!

IMO, at least 24 hrs of mixing new RO water with salt before adding to your tank, but I prefer to wait 48 hours.

Best,
Ilham
