Well, as usual, I was checking out things under my stand today and when I went to clean my skimmer's cup and neck, I noticed a nice crack in it! It is right below where the injector threads into the skimmer and for a second I thought, I must have tightened it too much the last time I cleaned the injector, but I know I didn't and also, the crack is about 1/2 inch away from the hole for the injector so something else caused it. I hardly even move the skimmer (only when swapping out tanks/sumps/cleaning the entire skimmer which was only done twice) and the skimmer has been sitting in the exact same place since I set up my cube a few months ago.

Anyways, I may watch it for a while to see if it spreads anymore which I'm sure it will, but it looks like I will have to buy a new skimmer soon. I'll try a different brand this time more than likely because I like new things(LOL) I talked to Rob today and he said they would more than likely replace it under warranty to send the pics, but the cost to ship that thing out to him may not be worth it. Anyways, here's a pic of the crack! I'll post a picture next time of it flying through the air! :D

I 2nd finn's idea.

Im sure a little expoxy or something along that line will stop the spread.

but on the other hand, i do like to shoot. so Krish if you can thow good, ill go out side with the M. Just make sure you thow up, and not out.

bin hearing a lot of people say there skimmer is cracked lately.

wounder why?

ROFL! I would have blamed it on heat as well in my stand, but there is no light on in there ever, unless I'm snooping around under the stand and it's very cool under there. I thought about the weldon and called my buddy who owns the place that built my tank and sump and he said that the weldon won't stop it from spreading really. I'd have to either drill 2 small holes one on either end of the crack to stop it from spreading and then try and fill it in or he could patch it with some other acrylic or something. I'll see how it goes. I can't see it causing really an issue with how it skimms because worse case scenario, it will just possibly drip slowly back into the sump if the crack gets big enough so not really an issue there. I just like things without cracks  (that didn't sound good:p ) I'll decide what I will do eventually. Like I said, I love new toys:)

That doesn't look like a high stress area. The guy is right about the two holes but were not talking about the bottom of a huge display tank so I wouldn't think that is anywhere near necessary. Sand a 1/2" wide strip over the crack and extend the sanding past the crack a 1/2" on each end. Then plaster the SOB with epoxy.

I like my toys too but I would never trade in my Ferrari because it had a scratch on it!

Okay i want to see some pics of your ferrari! I think they look better than lamborginis.
Here you go. I have a lamborghini too if you want to see it. :D

first drill a small hole at each end of the crack to stop the spread, than a little crazy glue in the crack and finally a little aquarium glue into the holes to seal them.

Meche, you shouldn't keep a scratched Enzo, I take care of that problem for you so you won't have to bother getting rid of it:D

Krish75,000 just toss the skimmer real high in the air & I'll practice some skeet shooting on it for you, clear that crack right up!

ohh come on Krish why are you lying to people, you told me you did this so Christina would let you buy the Octopus skimmer everyone is getting :p.

Seriously i'm sorry to hear about your skimmer :(.

I threw my My Reef Creations skimmer about 20 feet after it flooded the collection canister :D
