Anyone have any idea why my new squamosa clam is not doing well? The first day I had him he looked awsome and was obviously content with his new home, today when I woke up he looks terrible!? The mantle is crept back into the shell as far as it could be , the shell is open, no reflex when you wave your hand over him......every thing else is doing great including my other clam....man I hope he is alright....I thaught they were hardy and easy to keep?? I think he is going to die.:( Note: I did clean the glass on my light fixture..but it wasn't dirty enough to shock him with too much light, and the fixture is cleaned away from the tank so no chems. got in the water.)PH 8.0 Calcium 400 (sailifert) Alk 10-11 Temp. 78-80 Phos./trates undetectable.Calcium reactor during the day, Kalk stirrer drip at night.

250 watt halides 1200k
1 6' actinic
1 6' daylight
I have a crocea that is doing fine for months...no shrimp..one sally lightfoot.
Nobody went near this clam, Ive been watching, even at night with a red light.
I have only chromis,damsels,and three tangs...kole,lollypop,yellow.
I'm pretty sure the clam is dead now....that means it died after only one day in the tank. I think it was a lemon.

Thats only partially true. They are usually handled improperly and so stressed that they die at their final destination. One thing Ive seen most is, the dealer pulling the foot right out of the clam. My guess is that if you acclimated him properly he was already pretty unhappy. Once you get them in and established they are pretty simple to raise. I would remove that Sally Light Foot.:)

BB tank he was on a rock that had a nice concave shape that is perfect for a clam. I have seen plenty of squamosa's on rocks including the one at the store where I got him, a 12+ incher that has lived on the rock's since it was a juvenile. Here is a pic of the late clam when I put him in the tank. I think he looks real stressed out.
