i have an etss 800 running off of a iwaki 55rlt. its traveling about 5' back to the sump on a 1 1/2" return line. problem is that the waterline is too high in the skimmer with the back pressure of the height of my water line in my sump, and its causing a leak out of the connection of the chamber on the skimmer before the collection cup. i have gaskets on. the valve is currently all the way open.

my thoughts are increase the return pipe to 2". or move the skimmer closer so it dosent have to push the water so far.

i am very open to suggestions.

Move the skimmer closer, or raise the skimmer higher would be my guess.

My first thought was to add a valve to the out put of the pump, but that would reduce the amount of air/water into the skimmer. That isn't a option is it?

I could put a smaller pump on the skimmer I have an iwaki 40 rxlt.

It's a 1300gph pump. I hope it will work. If I were to put a pressure reducer on the skimmer then it would be doing the same thing. Right?

Hello,

I may be not understanding but if you lift your skimmer it should lower your water height? Also 5' doesn't seem that far with your skimmer return unless your trying to dump the skimmer outlet below your sump water line? With out seeing your set up it seems something may be plumbed wrong/different as 1 1/2" drain is more the enough for an IWK 55 since the out put is 1" i believe? With the 3600gph being to much for your DT overflows you can always add a dump off valve from DT pump back to sump before going to DT. I may be way off from what your asking but if not, hope some of this may help:)

Sorry I always forget people don't know everything about my system. The skimmer is on the same level as the rest of my sump. It's in my cabinet under my tank. It is tall enough that I can not raise it. It barely fits to begin with. Abut the 3600gph, he wants to trade me my iwaki 55 for that pump.

u can valve it down quite a bit with no damage it has 1 1/2 suppy and return 480 dollar pump

you could also run ur return and skimmer off the same pump maybe a consideration?
