i really need your help guys!!!

i knew this was going to happen, but i did nothing. my cucumber got jammed in my powerhead and has poisoned the tank. all the corals are in and all of the fish are stressed as hell. my carpet looks kinda okay but my LTA is the side of a dime, was the size of a dinner plate. ive changed as much water as i can, but my salt is low and i work in half an hour. im skimming like hell, what else can I do????? wont be home till 1am tomorrow, its over i know it. crash.

Do you know what kind of cucumber it was? Some are not as toxic as others, the more colorful ones are worse. Probably the best you can do is to do a good water change, whenever you can, and run some carbon.

I have heard that most things will come out stressed but ok. Like Jeff said run carbon, and lots of it. Its probley not as bad as you think. See if you can take along lunch and come home and do another water change. That should help. Sorry Wrassehole. Thats a shame. Steve

Oh, wrasseh - I'm sorry! Good advice given....water changes, and carbon. How large of a water change have you done? If you run out of salt mix, maybe you can pick up some already mixed up water from the LFS?

If it makes you feel any better....my carpet looks horrible. We were away last week, and I flooded my upstairs, and have single handedly ruined ceilings, subfloors (both floors), carpet and padding (both floors), and cabinets . (non-tank related, so don't ask...lol)

If you can fit all your corals in a big rubbermaid / vat. Then I should do this and use only clean freshly mixed saltwater on it with maybe 25percent of the old water.

then you can calm down and clean up your tank. Maybe siphon everything out then replace with new mix.

Why? If you do a water change, unless it is one big change, say 50 percent. Then it wont give a dent on the water quality.

Also dont use tap water!!! Calm down... and use RO/DI or any available ro water that you can buy from grocery store.

I agree water change and run carbon thats all you can do, i think you'll be ok, i have a cuke he's brown the atlantic kind i belive he's not toxic, good luck let us know.

Sorry to hear it Wrasse, cant add any more advice than to run a bunch of fresh carbon, and change as much water as you can like others said. Hope everything turns out OK.

Mrs. Wrassehole responding. We would like to take the time and thank you all for the good advice. He has done a 25% water change and will be doing another tomorrow morning. He was quite distressed today, but after I read your comments to him over the phone (he's at work) - he is feeling that there is light at the end of the tank.

I have even heard of survivors from a sea apple going through the power head. Supposedly they are a lot more toxic. I bet everything is going to be ok. Wrasse, hope everything is workin' out. Hopefully it isn't bad. Happened to me once and I wasn't real lucky, the only thing that survived was my watchman, which I still have. Make sure you let us know what is goin on.

I know how hard it is to keep your spirits up when something like this happens! My 29g tank sprung a leak one night and the only way I found it was I had some friends over who wanted to see the tank. I turned the living room light on and saw the stream coming from the corner .. My wife was getting ready for bed and she jumped up when she heard speak french . She ran to the local Wal-Mart and picked up another tank while I siphoned and moved as much as I could to other containers. Makes a mess bt gave me an excuse to reaquascape the tank.

Keep your head up wrassehole the tank will be fine. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I am sorry about this. I hope your skimmer pulls out the organics. I would also recommend doing a poly filter for a few days. A micron filter sock may help also for a few days. Its issues like this that make me want to get the best darn skimmer I can get. I hope you build screens for power heads so this does not happen again. It sounds like you had a power head close to the bottom for flow across your sand? Maybe if you flipped the power head over it would be out of harms way. I can not see your tank. I am guessing. I just wish you the best. I had a Porcupine puffer that got stuck in a intake and had about the same effect. The animal stresses and releases its defense and it effects other animals in the tank.
