Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Latest from Spllbnd2, over on PSAS thread. Seems he got it fixed, after a second call to his ISP

Hi Guys. I called my ISP again and I am finally able to reach RF website.
Here is the following of what was done for me to be able to reach RF website.

Performed all the Release / Renew / Flush / Cache memory cleared to no avail.

Contacted my ISP and mentioned to the tech that I was having issues with reaching your website and only your website since the server DNS IP address change. Also mentioned to the tech support rep that the issue was on our end and not RF end.

The tech and I went through all the steps provided as before and performed the trace route again. Nothing helped to get RF working. Then she changed my DHCP DNS server from Dynamic to Static and now I can get to RF website without any problems.

Again the only change that was made was in the router/modem settings the DNS DHCP was changed from Dynamic to Static and the
DNS Server 1: 208.67.222.222
DNS Server 2: 208.67.220.220

Hope this helps. And thank you all for the help too.
Alex

Scooty, unfortunately, most people who are experiencing this problem, won't be able to even view this thread, to see what you're asking them to do. I will copy this to the PSAS forum thread, to see if it helps.

That is why you need to post it where ever you can to help!:D

Yes unfortunately the ISP has to force the old i.p. out and that may take some knowing how.

I'm HERE!!! :D

Okay so anyone who is having the same issue of your router IP server not directing you to the new RF IP address may try the following as it has helped me.

After I tried numerous attempts to clear the cache, router hard reset, etc...etc to find everything was not helping I called my IP tech support and asked for there help on accessing RF website and mentioned that it seeemed that the problem is somewhere on my end or the IP's end.

So here's the low down. Acess you router/modem, sometimes it is a 192.168.1.1

Once there, go into the routers advance settings tab.
Click on the DHCP settings tab.
Adjust the DHCP settings to a "Static" DNS Server.
DNS Server 1: 208.67.222.222
DNS Server 2: 208.67.220.220

Now hit apply to allow the new settings to take effect. Once the new settings have been applied, try and access RF. If you can access RF now it worked and all you have to do is reverse the setings that we just performed.
In the DHCP settings , change back to the default settings which should be from "Static" back to "Dynamic"

posted it over there. Alex (spllbnd2) seems to have found a solution. Now, we'll see if your link and directions, help Mark (skimmy), who's also over there, having issues...lol. Eventually, we'll get to the bottom of this, though it seems like Alex's solution may be the answer!

Persistence pays off again. Five hours of emails back and forth, playing with my router settings and network settings, 2 tech support calls and finally I am back here with a possible solution. :D

Life is Good. Oh I shouldn't say that yet. Still have 2 laptops to clean up and get RF up onto.

One final note worth mentioning.

Be sure to update all your router security settings such as MAC authentication and admin passwords. As these will be reverted to the default settings when doing a hard reset on the router.

You will also probably need to reset the WiFi settings on Laptops and Game Systems that you have using WiFi.

Cheers,
Alex

dear god im back!!!
didnt have to call isp,
i erased cookies, history, temp files, flushed dns, released/renewed, still nothing...
this morning i went into the router and was prompted to update the firmware,
did so, didnt change the static/dynamic settings at all, but then about 5 mins later RF popped up..
so maybe someone else got comcast to purge their cash and it worked for me, firmware update changed the cash, or you guys did something on your end... :)
im not l33t enough to do much more than get myself in worse trouble, unfortunately.

Nice to see you here Mark. Sounds like when your router performed the firmware update it cleared everything out of memory. That is why when you flash or update the firmware on anything, they always have all these warnings ablt backing eveything up and tell you there's no going back. *lol*

Good to see you here :D
